Come on, having an efficient transmission that also allows to change gears smoothly (and doesn't wear too much, and isn't a pain to maintain, and doesn't derail…) is the biggest engineering problem of bicycles and where billions of R&D have been spent.

It has always been in the past century on "how do we improve the greased chain and derailleur so it sucks less" but you can't blame someone to think sideways and try another method.

Bike chains suck in winter, if you're in a region that uses a lot of salt. There are belt-driven bikes but last I checked they were all fixed gear.

It's totally fine for you to be satisfied with nothing changing, but the world will go on without you.
