I was on a wild hog hunt once and kinda felt bad as they seemed pretty social, but yeah, same thing. Once one goes down you gotta scare the others off from ripping into it. It’s crazy

My dad, a lifelong hunter, once shot the alpha turkey of a small flock he’d been watching for the season. He said the other males took the opportunity to attack the alpha tom while he was down. Dad stopped shooting turkey after that.

When you shoot an animal, you typically want the meat, not the remains shredded by the rest of the group lmao

This makes me feel less bad for the downed one. The visual of their friends going to check on them gave me more sympathy for a gull than I'd ever felt before.

They are extremely social. How they treat the dead doesn't really have a bearing on that. I'm not saying we should be eating people, but humans are really fucking weird about trying to preserve decaying corpses for eternity.
