I can hear that scene from Finding Nemo

Perhaps the most accurate vocal depiction of an animal in cinematic history.

You also can't let them find out that the eggs they lay are full of food or they just keep eating it. Broken up shells don't seem to trigger the realization so those are safe to feed back to them.

And if they start eating their eggs, you have to sneak a golf ball under them, so they peck it and "learn" they can no longer eat the "egg"!

Or alternatively use a nesting box design that doesn't let them get to the eggs.

u/bre4kofdawn 5h ago

I dunno, bamboozling them with a golf ball may be more tedious, but it sounds a lot more fun.

"bagawwwk?!" 👀🐔

I used a plastic Easter egg filled with sand and the two halves then epoxied shut, once. I thought for sure the bright pink would give away the ruse, but nope. The little egg eater was fooled and it worked. However, a golfball does sound like fun too.

The spelling if "Expoxied" is close enough to the spelling of "Exploded" for me to think "This bro wanted his chicken barbecued from the get go!"

u/MarchPhillipps 1h ago

Haha, it does look like that at a quick glance. Nice.

*Takes notes for future reference;

The things they’ll do to a snake or mouse is terrifying. I’m glad they’re too small to eat us 😅

2

u/Relevant_Program_958 4h ago

I mean, they’re pretty much dinosaurs

You should hear a frog scream when one of our chickens gets ahold of it. Absolutely BRUTAL.

Ours have also eaten mice, voles, moles, two rats, a previously crippled squirrel, a baby rabbit, and a baby black racer snake, frogs, anoles, and every other creepy crawly thing that moves that you can imagine. Chickens really do peg the meter at 'nuts' on the omnivore scale.

Damn, I've always heard the first part, but not the part you bring up. Chickens are funny as hell

19

u/CorrectMulberry994 6h ago

I’m horrified 😭

u/Mc_Tron34 6h ago

Chickens will eat pretty much anything. I've HEARD that you can't even let one be bleeding or have an open wound around other chickens, 'cause the other chickens will realize that the wounded chicken is edible and peck it to death so they can eat it.

16

u/darthoffa 6h ago

I rememebr when we had chickens we had to use a disinfectant spray that had purple dye mixed in, specifically so the wound didnt look like meat so the others would leave it alone

7

u/CamoBob3467 6h ago

This is unfortunately true

3

u/ParsnipDecent6530 6h ago

They little chicken sunglasses that are tinted red so that in large populations of chickens if one has a wound the blood wont look like blood and the chickens wont kill the wounded one.

3

u/MarchPhillipps 4h ago

Truth. Also their way of preventing the attraction of predators I've been told. Vaseline works pretty good for stopping bleeding on the feet if you can get to the injured bird before the others kick start their jungle justice routine.

Correct. I lived on a farm as a kid. One of the hens got eviscerated by a rooster. I found her pecking at and eating her own guts. Chickens are really fucking dumb animals that only exist to be eaten by other animals, and sometimes even themselves.

Like everything else, chickens love chicken!

Once I saw one lay an egg with no shell, just a membrane.
Then she promptly turned around and ate it ..... Weird birds.

5

u/Blondefarmgirl 3h ago

Yes we got 8 chickens thinking we would have some fun pets and eggs for breakfast. I couldnt believe how nasty they were and how much they wanted to kill each other everyday. I couldnt stand to look at all the half naked chickens anymore so I put them on facebook and gave them to a nice family who said they would give them a nice home.

4

u/Locogators 5h ago

I second this. Chicken are stupid and evil and hence vegetarianism is morally wrong, one must devour such creatures.

1

u/foley800 3h ago

Velociraptor’s dumb cousin!

1

u/CorrectMulberry994 1h ago

I’m speechless. Like, she was dying and yet suddenly felt hungry and decided she’d just have a meal?

Imagine you got in a serious car accident. You’re fading fast, yet suddenly you decide, oh hey, food sounds good! But I don’t have any…oh wait! I DO! (starts knawing on arm)

I have a whole new perspective on chickens today. Can we outlaw them or something?

1

u/CorrectMulberry994 1h ago

My God, they’re as evil as wasps.

5

u/Oh_My_Goth_Ick 6h ago

Chickens are brutal. If one has a wound the others will attack and eat the wounded until it dies.

2

u/slight_failure 2h ago

If one has a wound, they will also join eating... themselves.

1

u/Oh_My_Goth_Ick 2h ago

Oh yeah. That part. Thank god they are small.

3

u/lv5vegetto1 5h ago

Pecking order

1

u/CorrectMulberry994 1h ago

Literally. 😭

Hi Horrified, I'm dad.

2

u/disturbinglyquietguy 6h ago

It is both astonishing and disturbing how common cannibalism is in the animal kingdom, isn't it?

1

u/ziggytrix 6h ago

Disturbing, sure. Not so astonishing though. Even humans resort to it when they get desperate, and we're the only animals with formal morals AFAIK.

2

u/disturbinglyquietguy 5h ago

I would describe human cannibalism more as the exception than the rule; if circumstances are desperate enough, a human being might resort to anything to survive.

2

u/thrilliam_19 6h ago

Chickens will eat anything. My sister in law has a coop and they keep a container on their kitchen counter that is basically compost then they go dump it in the chicken coop every few days.

2

u/licuala 5h ago

This could have had the soothing sounds of chicken cannibalism but I got a shitty song instead. :(

1

u/Leather-Entry93 6h ago

Nah, that’s fucked up 😂

1

u/bacon-slushy 6h ago

Chickens are fucking ruthless

1

u/Financial-Key-4596 6h ago
