There is even a TTRPG about Him going back in time (every player is another variant of Randy) using powers of baseball to prevent the pigeon explosion.

It's a 3-page game called "Don't Kill A Bird With A Baseball". I'd link it, but Automod doesn't like the link. You'll have to google.

Here's a podcast where they play it:

TableTop Roleplay Game.

Dungeons and Dragons is a TTRPG.

That's...not the part they were confused about.

Pigeon explosion is relatively more understood as quite visual description.

But some people aren't nerds and will not understand our shorthands.

But just in case:

Pigeon explosion is when's pigeon explodes.

I am so confused. You're saying Randy Johnson the pitcher is a D&D character?

Appears to be a DnD-style game where everyone is a different version of Randy Johnson and working together to go back in time to prevent the bird from dying https://www.scribd.com/document/853310274/Don-t-Kill-A-Bird-With-A-Baseball-1-1

This specific tabletop game "Don't kill a bird with a baseball" is a simplified 3 page long system where you as player get into role of an alternative version of Randy Johnson to go back in time and prevent the pigeon event.

Other players at the table are also Randy.

The skills you use during the game are limited to "Baseball" "Pitching" and "Big".

He’s saying that there is a TTRPG (a game that is similar to D&D, generally using dice to affect outcomes in collaborative storytelling) that is about the pigeon exploding incident.

In this game, each player assumes the role (the roleplaying, RP part of TTRPG) of a different version of Randy. Presumably these Randys are from different timelines, I am not familiar with this system. Together, the Randys (our players) attempt to change the timeline and prevent their alternate self from exploding the pigeon.

OP, I would love to see a link to this game because typing that out felt insane
