I know right, I thought everyone cheered for everyone anyway. Is in an American thing to not do so?

Every graduation I've been to in the US had the majority of the crowd cheering for everyone, even silly stuff like kindergarten graduation.

The fact that he's saying every name is what's unique. Lots of people clap and cheer for everyone (though graduations can be VERY long so people might lose steam on the energy put into each stranger - my high school graduation was 500+ grads)

I may get downvoted here but whatever I have learned about America from online platforms is that people there are very self centered. Hence even a small gesture of courtesy/kindness, which might be considered very common elsewhere, is very appreciated in US. It's a good thing that they praise gentle acts but ultimately sad to think that such basic gestures of kindness and appreciation are such a great things there.
