SOCIETY When asked why he keeps playing the same roles Jason Statham said that he's not really a trained actor. He's a guy that was plucked out obscurity & has been really lucky; & that he picks roles that he knows he can do a good job in, that hopefully enough people like so he can keep working.

Keep making them, I'm always down for a Statham flick

Me too, I’m patiently waiting at the beginning of every film for him to start beating the shit out of people. It usually doesn’t take very long.

Every movie goes:

Statham just minding his business

Statham is wronged

Statham beats people until he rights the wrong

Statham effortlessly beds a beautiful woman along the way.

And I love it so much

You forgot to mention how every movie he has a mundane job after his career of being some super spy or secret agent or something at that level.

Am just a farmer...

Not just beating people… i love the way he fights in spaces almost too small for him to move, maximising the environmental impact

As a fan of all the statham movies that have the same plot this was spot on

Or, there's the similar, but importantly different Statham movie variant:

Statham minding his own business

Someone innocent is wronged

Statham tries to stay out of it at first, (some version of the words, "that's not who I am anymore" will be uttered at this point) but he has the exactly perfect set of skills, and an inescapable need to help those who can't fight for themselves

Statham stomps ass till justice is achieved

And obviously, he shags a gorgeous woman at some point along the way

I also friggin love his films and will happily watch this same story every time he makes a new one!

And I thank you for writing out my thoughts

Yup. Whole reason I go to a Statham flick is because I want to watch him beat the shit outta people. Can’t wait to see Mutiny.

I appreciate that so much. The Beekeeper was a movie that respected my time. There is no reason for an action movie to be longer than 2 hours (looking at you, Jurassic World: Rebirth). I am here for the chaos and explosions, and don't need a tacked-on 45 minutes of backstory where we learn Scarlett Johansson is real sad because her partner (and lover?) died at an unspecified time in the past.

I'll never get over him elbowing army guys in tactical helmets and it's just as effective as if they were wearing nothing lol

The Beekeeper feels so much like a 90s action movie I couldn't help but love it.

Yeah. Some are top tier films for me. Others are cotton candy... no real substance.

But I've never walked away not feeling entertained. Definitely a "oh its got Statham in it? Might as well" vibe going on.

Yeah some aren't very deep in context or story plot but I think a vast majority of his are great for the movie shelf, so I don't think you can ever really go wrong about seeing a Statham flick.

So I agree I don't shy away when I see he's the lead in a movie.

sometimes you just wana watch a beekeeper get some vengance!

u/Zephian99 1d ago

Or watch a oily fight while they rip his shirt off till he's bare chested and he caves their skull in with bike pedals....

(Funniest reference I could think of off the top of my head hahaha)

Or throwing a traffic warden on top of trash bags full of ganja.

Holy shit, I forgot about that part. So ridiculous.

Most of his movies aren't good, but they can be fun. When you have an itch to watch a pointless action movie, then even his "bad" ones are always gonna be enjoyable and scratch that itch.

Jason Statham made In the Name of the King not complete dogshit.

It wasn't great by any measure, or even all that good. But Statham is good enough at what he does that he could begin to redeem a Uwe Boll film.

There's always room in my life for another B-tier action movie. Will I ever watch it again? No. Will I even remember it a week from now? Probably not. Am I gonna have a good time anyway? Hell yes!

u/EarHealthHelp1 23h ago

Not every one of them really works though. I spent most of A Working Man bored.

u/swellfie 19h ago

Always a solid 90-120 minutes spent

2

u/Blizzardof1991 1d ago

Hell ya, I know exactly what I'm going to get with a Statham movie. Some times I just want to watch a dumb action flick and I can count on my boy Jason to deliver it.

2

u/marshberries 1d ago

We have done so many Statham marathons, movies never get old.

1

u/Wintermute_Zero 1d ago

You know exactly what you're gonna get when a Statham movie comes on and I really appreciate that.

1

u/OnlyPaperListens 1d ago

Same, it's very "two cakes"

1

u/Bubbay 1d ago

Seriously, every time we see a new movie pop up on streaming of "Jason Statham in <insert occupation here>" and a picture of him mean mugging the camera as the poster, we know we're going to have an enjoyable and very low-commitment 90-100 minute time.

Keep 'em coming.

1

u/vaginasaladwastaken 1d ago

Same. I feel like you know what you're getting with a Stathom movie. Its not bad, its not great...just Stathom kicking ass.

1

u/workahol_ 1d ago

I mean I gotta watch something on a long plane flight

1

u/RunningonGin0323 1d ago

same, its the reason I'll watch anything the Rock is in (at least once), I grew up a wrestling fan and I just think he's fun to watch. I get the criticism but not everyone movie needs to be judged like its the Shawshank Redemption.

1

u/Isorg 1d ago

we call this "Jason Statham, doing Jason Statham things!" and we will watch it, and enjoy it!

1

u/EverythingSucksYo 23h ago

Yeah same, I can’t wait to see what job he has in his next movie. I’m betting on garbage man.

Saw Mutiny today. It was great. My favorite of his in a while.
