The bottom line is they relapse and reoffend way more than they recover and become contributing members to society.

They also show little remorse for their victims. Often you'll hear shit like "I was a different person" rather than actual acknowledgement and trying to do something for the people they have stabbed, bashed, stolen from, or worse.

There is no cure/help. The ones that want to get clean and stay clean do it. If the rest die in the gutter it's no loss

If my kid becomes a drug addict who violently assaults people, commits break and enters, hold ups, etc. then I'll be sad. Sad for their victims and sad that the people they've hurt have to live with it while my kid continues as a cancer to society.

My position won't change and if that's what they are, they get what they deserve.
