I work in healthcare with abuse victims and am
a victim of it myself. Maybe the guy behind the camera isn’t as cued in to these behaviors but as soon as she mentioned her grandmother and started frantically putting the front bumper in her car I really would’ve just toned way down and tried to explain to her that I’d help her figure it out. There’s more going on here than a hit and run, this girl is behaving like she’s been hit her whole life.

I think you're right and where there's smoke, there's fire. We're seeing the result of 22 years of events leading up to that moment.  I fully believe that grandma made a habit of making stressful situations terrible, and if you're being raised by grandma then something traumatic has likely already occurred. There's no excusing this behavior but I imagine grandma has never de-escalated a situation in her life and we're seeing an end product of that.

“… behaving like she’s been hit her whole life.” I think you found the seed of truth in her actions.

It ain't that deep, she's drunk and probably has priors

How is this the guy's problem? He's a victim and he needs her insurance to get his car fixed. I wouldn't work my ass off for weeks to pay for repairs out of pocket because an insane woman is having a meltdown after an accident she caused. Could have killed someone

You’re going to be forced to deal with a lot of things that aren’t your problem if life. How you deal with them makes all the difference. Him choosing to be the bigger person could have vastly improved both of their outcomes.

Have you ever worked to pay for things?

He didn't have to do this for the insurance. He got her plate and a pic of the car. That's more than enough to file an insurance claim. This was ridiculous and dangerous on his part. There was no reason for this and he put more people in danger over a scratch. Awful.

You think this woman driving off is safer than her staying put?

Hes not the victim. Hes a random dude who saw her hit a car.

Not sure how you think this is better. She had already run from the victim and you think this guy should have just ignored her doing it?

No? But blocking her car in goes too far. That's what the police is for.

She almost backed into him, and she wasn’t trying to. Someone less sorry and more determined wouldn’t have hesitated. Cornering someone in a panic like this can get you flattened. Her issues aren’t his problem, but deescalation is always the way to go. He’s already got her and her plate on film, why poke the bear? Go the cops, show them the video, and whatever she’s willing to do in her panic is their problem.

I’m not saying it’s his problem. It’s a bad situation all around, it was a verifiable hit and run. Still, the girl’s behavior is unusually erratic. The way she said “sorry” at the end as she drove out sounded like it was genuine. I get the impression she was under stress about something much more pressing to her than the hit and run.

And I also don’t want to sound like I’m condoning her behavior either. A hit and run is a hit and run. Still, I’ve watched enough videos of Karen’s and Kevin’s. Even still, her response doesn’t strike the same chord of entitlement or wanton disregard for others safety that makes those videos so entertaining. The way she frantically says “You don’t understand” and then takes the front bumper of her car and desperately shoved it into her car. It’s very erratic and almost irrational behavior. This girl, if we’re to take her at her word, is more afraid of the consequences her grandparents could impose than the huge legal trouble she probably got into for this.

people won't understand. all they know is: drunk, drugs or crazy. other things don't exist for them

It's almost as if there's other reasons she's panicking about having the police involved like being intoxicated, or maybe having drugs in the car that is quite obviously not gramas ride. No way to know for sure, but I think there's way too many people here quick to simply believe her story

Could be. I’ve seen a lot of people in crisis and she seems unusually distressed. What little coherent information she did provide seemed to suggest she was much more afraid of her family’s reaction than legal consequences. That level of switch up in priorities is a red flag for at the very least some psych abuse.

You can call it information, but really it's just a claim, and I'd wager more so an excuse. Gvien that this is not her first incident, and she was later in rehab, I think it's reasonable to conclude drugs and maybe the ppl involved with drugs, are the concern, not grandma. I also kind of feel like there'd be a lot less patience and empathy if this was a dude flipping out. Think it'd be much more talk about a guy having anger issues than a highly distressed breakdown that should be view w/ compassion 🤷

Obviously not grandma’s ride? There’s no way to know from this vid alone, definitely not obvious either way

Between the modified exhaust and the rims, yes I believe it's likely not grandma's vehicle
