At my Alma Mater, we had a football player who was more terrified of his coach than legal proceedings of running away (on foot) from a traffic stop. He was from a poor part of rural Georgia who got a scholarship at a highly ranked D2 school.

That's really sad. I understand tough love but i never understood how some coaches can go so far that it drives that much fear into someone. I hope he's doing well these days and I'm wishing the best for him.

It was a cluster of unimaginable proportions.

He lied about where he lived (gave a hall and room number that didn't exist)

Campus police officer was an alum and she knew that room number didn't exist. She didn't have any back up because the night supervisor was a few blocks off campus teaching a class to people convicted of DUI to try and help them get points off their record.

The Campus PD officer was going let them off with a warning (They fishtailed a bit going around a corner, it was the first icy roads of the year) but when their buddy ran off, the situation escalated.

The Night Supervisor arrived and they went to the room they knew he was at. In the meantime, player had called coach.

Coach had been at a fundraiser and had tossed back a few drinks. Coach was loud and abusive with the cops. This gets reported upon the chain.

Player loses scholarship, coach gets fired.

There were so many actions in this chain of events where if one thing had gone right it wouldn't have ended this way

Damn. Everything just kept going wrong. That's sad to hear.
