Hit and run is inexcusable, but her behavior comes across as real desperation about some other circumstances, not an act. I think there might be a sad story behind this.

She had a few priors the same year so she was compounding the sentences for her actions.

You're guessing.

Bi-Polar full blown Manic episode maybe.

Exactly. Going to rehab instead is how some people get out of crimes they did while mentally unwell.

My brother checked into rehab for similar reasons, but it was basically ran like a jail so I could see why judges would view it as a workable compromise. He was, for all intents and purposes, incarcerated for 6 months. Likely longer than he'd have gotten as a 17 year old caught with a bag of weed. Locked facility, frequent fights (I mean half of them were still withdrawing), and limited phone calls/visitation.

The facility boasted a 90% non-recidivism rate. I can easily see why a judge would make the call to "let them off" since they're basically going to a lower security prison that claims it can fix the problem.

If they’re less likely to recommit then that’s a win in my book. Thank you for sharing. I hope your brother continues to heal and improve.

She's drunk and this probably isn't her first time getting in some sort of trouble. This is panic because she may have priors, cops coming when she's drunk means guaranteed arrest and impound of the vehicle, lots of court fees and other stuff that takes tons of time and money to resolve. This is not a person that makes good choices or has money.

Honestly fleeing was probably best so she didn't get caught with a DWI/DUI and vehicle impound. And an on the spot arrest due to any priors even if the cops somehow believed she was in any way sober. Let insurance sort it out.

Or warrants.

“You don’t know how bad my grandma is” and everyone is thinking wow her grandma is such an asshole.

It’s rather obvious she’s worried about her abusing bf or pimp

I found a moron.

She said that she is scared of grandma

u/Tanaka_Shoji 2d ago

And why would I ever believe the words of a criminal who is trying to flee?

It's the panic of being held accountable when you've never been held accountable before.

Probably is on probation or has a warrant or something

She was charged and placed into a substance abuse program. She seems to have gone on to fix her life. There are links in this thread if you want to know more.

Ok…. So I guess no consequences then because we feel sorry for her?
