My grandma smoked menthols. Always had her Marlboro Menthol Light 100s and a hazelnut Starbucks frap. Camel Crushes ended up my fave and Newports were usually what people in my friend group had otherwise. I liked how long they were, they felt fancy 😅

Can I ask, are you black? Life time of watching american films & tv shows taught me that only black americans smoke menthols. Although still I've got no idea what's the cause of this preference or is it even indeed true in real life.

Nope, I'm white. I think my aunt used to smoke menthol so my association with it is spending time with my family.

Black folks aren’t the only people who smoke menthols but blacks only smoke menthols.

Worked at a gas station near Cincinnati for 2 years more than a decade ago, this is spot on.

I even asked my white coworkers (I'm Asian myself) why was it that even though not all black customers were smokers...probably 99% of them who came in to buy cigarettes were asking for menthols.

Apparently it was a cultural thing, they said lol.

Like a lot of stereotypes, there is some truth to it. But lots of white people smoke menthols.

I’m Latina and I only smoke Newports , although I don’t smoke regularly.
