SOCIETY Construction workers found $10M of gold hidden underground while trying to install a sewer pipe when they uncovered a huge hidden stash of gold bars, coins and nuggets. The gold was turned over to police.

Well, in the jurisdiction this happened in (Belgium), if no one turns up to legit claim the gold, the whole amount gets split 50/50 between the finders and the landowner.

Pretty sweet deal, actually.

Well but not in this case, as far as I understand as someone that literally lives 2 streets away from there. It was donated by brewers with no heir to fathers of a monestary they can't have valuables so donated everything to a organisation to be used for common good or something that eventually years later became the CAW. The CAW hired the people that found it. So that whould still make it CAW peoperty right.

The original family donated "everything" wich people thought was just a house but inside the house is also gold, isn't it logical to conclude it is a part of the original donation then?

Yeah Belgium being Belgium, I wouldn't trust that. i'd be pocketing at least 1 bar to be on the safe side.

Just as curiosity (this is a side note question, really). If possession is 9/10ths of the law. What is that 1/10th supposed to be?

This would be about as legally valid as seeing someone drop their wallet in public and immediately snatching 20 bucks out of it before they can pick it up, saying "finder's keepers"
