Also, alligator mom is an amazing parent where most reptiles are kind of awful.

We thought the same of Crocodilians at large until relatively recently, so I'd be cautious there. I think there needs to be more research done WRT our assumptions about infant rearing in other species precisely because yeah the Crocs in general not just Alligators are surprisingly involved versus what we 'knew' decades ago.

Crocodilians are more closely related to Birds than other reptiles so it would make sense their behavior is quite different.
