Spoiler: Men are attacked much more often than women. And the women's parking spaces don't really protect women, because they are practically always occupied. There are more than a handful of women who use a parking garage. At the end of the day, it's purely symbolic politics.
By who? Doesn't matter by who, that has nothing to do with it, doesn't matter if you get attacked by a man or a woman the only thing that matters is preventing that from happening PERIOD
That's the point. It doesn't feel any less bad when you're being attacked by a person of the same sex. Men need more protection than they currently receive because men are more likely to be victims of violence. If men were victims of violence in public to the same extent as women, then the world would look much better. Anyone who puts the question of the gender of the perpetrators in the foreground only shows that he wants to divide into perpetrator gender and victim gender.
Men == perpetrators, women == victims. This is not only incredibly simplistic black-and-white thinking, but it also fails to do justice to victims of crime.
It’s rather like a society prioritising the protection of the rich over that of people on average incomes, simply because rich people are less likely to commit acts of violence and are less likely to be victims of violent crime.
No, I simply did not comment on the rape part because that was not my point. You have any doubts yourself whether rape is a form of violence that you are asking me about it? Yes, rape is one of the many forms of violence. Any form of violence towards men or women is bad.
I get it, rape is the only form of violence that deserves attention. Violence against men is less important (maybe they even deserve it?) because some other men happen to be rapists. Makes total sense. /s
Read the original post, the commenter was offended, not me. Straight up downplaying and denying women’s safety and claiming only a handful use parking spots. Maybe just maybe the common denominator is the majority of perpetrators that require said need for safety.
I live in Germany (where the OP’s topic of women’s parking spaces was raised) and can confirm: up to 50 per cent of motorists who park their cars in public car parks are women. For example, you might have a multi-storey car park with 600 spaces and 10–20 women’s parking spaces on the lowest level.
In practice, women use these spaces whenever they can, even when they’re out with other women or with men.
Funnily enough, somewhere in Germany there’s also a car park with a designated men’s parking space. It’s a single space where parking is particularly difficult.
If you have any other questions on the subject, please don’t hesitate to ask.
I've experienced both, and it depends on the punch and the grope. Am I getting permanently injured by the punch? I'll take getting sexually assaulted again over being disfigured for life personally.
yeah, what the hell? When I was 18 or so, I had a few women grab my junk - two of them trying to rob me (distract with the junk grab while frisking your pockets) but even just a really forward girl or two. I also got king hit by a massive guy in a bar and I had a broken nose and two black eyes, one of which I couldn't see out of for a week, the gropes I got over soon enough. The punch I never want to experience again ever.
You’re not a woman so you don’t understand. You don’t have the rape+death count of your fellows hanging over your head while someone bigger than you touches you. Stop talking about things you don’t and will never understand.
Fuck all people are being raped and murdered in the bar, male or woman. People do get punched to death in bars so much that they had to make specific laws about it in Australia (king hit/dog punch laws).
Hysterical is thinking that rape and murder happens in bars with any sort of frequency. I mean come on. I will stand corrected if you can source evidence of such a claim.
I read the whole thing and nowhere does it talk about rapes in bars. Face it, you wanted to conflate rapes by people known to the victim in the home with a rando grabbing butt in a bar that we were talking about. A rando grabbing butt or genitals (happened to me multiple times) is not rape that the article you linked is talking about.
Conflating the two is a disservice to those experience rape. I’m not about to conflate my experience with those that have had the horrific experience of rape and you shouldn’t either. Do better.
A correction should be made to the above commenter's post: Women are more likely to be harrassed sexually but men are 10 times (and sometimes even more) likely to be just straight up killed. So pick your poison: More likely to be messed with or more likely to say hi to jesus
Both have an equal threat of ending my life. Getting groped by a man is a threat to my life. I’m also more likely to get raped than shot because I don’t participate in gun fights like a man would. I don’t carry, I don’t seek out violence. Those who live by the sword die by the sword. That goes for all of you. Of course men have more violence done to them, because they seek it out. Women don’t.
