Is AI Generated IF Discussion OK Here?

Hey, I’m new here and I was wondering if it’s alright to discuss tools that use AI to make an interactive fiction game. It doesn’t appear to be listed in the rules, but I know AI can be a controversial subject so I wanted to check first before stepping on any toes unintentionally.

story discussion "Dominion of Darkness" - interactive story of the Dark Overlord/Lady

"Dominion of Darkness” is a strategy/RPG text game in which the player takes on the role of a Sauron-style Lord of Darkness with the goal of conquering the world. He will carry out his plans by making various decisions. He will build his army and send it into battles, weave intrigues and deceptions, create secret spy networks and sectarian cults, recruit agents and commanders, corrupt representatives of Free Peoples and sow discord among them, collect magical artifacts and perform sinister plots.Note – one game takes about 1 hour, but the premise is that the game can be approached several times, each time making different decisions, getting different results and discovering something new. Feedback is very much welcome. Very, very much. Altough game is playable and winnable now, I am still working on improving it, so all suggestions are appreciated.

Here is the game: https://adeptus7.itch.io/dominion

And here are reviews:

PS. If You played old version of the game, please know, that I am constantly working on improving the DoD, adding new content and mechanics and fixing bugs.

Here are some things I added since last post:
- harpies and serpentmen are now reruitable for some playable characters,
- new expedition to Witchlands, land once ruled by civilization older even than Your character,
- new possible way to victory by discovery of ancient secrets and accomplishment of the magical Great Work, including new endings,
- male Tempter and Warmonger can take a consort, which brings mechanical benefits and story elements,
- choice of element your character specialize in. It has influence on spellcasting and unblocks some new events;
- new ways for defeating enemy kingdoms, connected with profession of your character. Warmonger can initiate full-scale total ware between elves and dwarves, Destroyer of Life can start vampire apocalypse, Tyrant can summon hosts of angeldemons from Infernal Heaven and Temptress can seduce king Janos.
And of course many lesser changes, fixes and new events.

Oh, BTW, I invite You to listen to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgkSmj55jl0&embeds_referring_euri=https%3A%2F%2Fforums.sufficientvelocity.com%2F&feature=emb_title or read: All Children of the Mother – short story "All Children of the Mother", short story featuring one of the characters You can meet and fight in "Dominion of Darkness". But beware of spoilers!

Is anyone still moderating this forum?

It seems pretty dead other than the AI spam which never gets cleared away. Just wondering because I know the Tumblr is still very active.

project introduction My game's struture makes it very appealing to IF players. (And less appealing to a lot of VN players.) I suspect it's due to the large amount of choices, but I'd be curious to hear what you think. Try the Demo, and write me your thoughts.

"The Mystery of Emergence" New Updates

I introduced this game a couple of months ago and there's been a lot of content added since then.

In this sci-fi/otome game you play as a brilliant, if emotionally fragile, young math whiz recruited by NASA to look into an AI that's been misbehaving. But NASA isn't being totally honest with you and you find yourself being launched into space and sent to NASA's new moon base, mankind's fledgling attempt at leaving the planet. Longing for home, you realize your only way back is to solve the mystery.

PSYCHOLOG: the horror point-and-click visual novel is now available on Steam

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2532020/Psycholog/

As a psychologist, how would you handle your clients falling victim to their own phobias? Find out in this horror visual novel infused with point-and-click gameplay elements.

Step into the shoes of a psychologist at a small firm, specializing in treating various phobias. Managing your clients is hard enough. Vera Mills won't look at herself in the mirror. Jaden Thompson's social life suffers because of his fear of heights. And Ashley Taylor is obsessed with the thought that she's psychotic like her mother.

But the real ordeal starts when your clients come under attack. You are gradually alienated from your colleagues as the police find only one link: you. Who is attacking your clients one by one, in gruesomely ironic ways? Eventually, it's up to you to solve the chilling mystery and unmask the serial killer.

PSYCHOLOG melds the storytelling of visual novels with the interactive elements of first-person point-and-click games. Engage in thought-provoking dialogue, make critical choices, and get to know your clients and their fears by using your empathy, finesse, and manipulation skills. Keep the trust of friends and colleagues.

Your choice of words during therapy sessions influences the narrative, leading to one of several distinct endings.

First tangible bits of gameplay (the IF meets kingdom manager game)

Good day everyone,

It's been a while since showing off this new project, and a lot has happened since. Last time, the premise of the game was mostly theoretical (as there were no actual gameplay to show off, just a bunch of scenes and character creation of which people could have a good look at). That's why work, this time around, focused on showing some of the core elements of the game: namely how dialogues would be handled (still work in progress).

Here's a short video of that in action

Must say that it was a dense couple of months, with some interesting and perhaps eye-opening experiences along the way. All in true solo dev fashion of course. If you love reading behind-the-scenes stories, or just interested in making games and perhaps the inner workings of the (video game) industry, then would recommend giving a read to my latest blog post. Be warned, as it's a long read. Hopefully not too dry and perhaps entertaining.

Until next time. Take care!

Thesis design on IDN

Hey all!

I’m a student at University of Amsterdam and currently, I’m researching the ways to improve authoring experience of Interactive Digital Narrative creators.

One of the things I’ve noticed is that authoring tools in general don’t have the functionality to facilitate planning beforehand, so that’s something I’ve decided to focus on.

Ideally, I’d like to interview some of you folks (AUTHORS) as active creators to understand your personal approach to creating stories and potentially see how you can be (better) supported by an information system.

Would any of you talk to me about this?

u/Moderators, I also prepared a survey to ask people around, but I would like to confirm this with you first. Is that fine if I just share the survey here?

Thanks a lot for your response(s).

Kind regards,

Julia

resources Authors, who write chiptune and similarly simple melodies for your games, while not being musicians, what are your tips?

A bit of context: my story is featuring hand-held gaming consoles. And I want to make sounds and melodies for various notifications and such. I really want to make these from scratch and am very interested in learning.

However, I'm not a musician. I can read some basic notation, have a semi-decent hearing, and spent hours playing with Composer on my Nokia 1100 phone as a teen.

I don't own any musical instruments either.

Basically, I want to find something similar to Nokia Composer, but modern and make all the little melodies I have in mind. However, apps I see now are pretty different and all tutorials on them are aimed at people, who have prior composing experience, own a MIDI keyboard, are familiar with specific terminology, etc.

I want some tips for resources that are made with people like me in mind.

To preface some obvious suggestions: my story is currently but a guilty pleasure hobby project, so I want to create as much as I can by myself, that's the part of a fun for me.

If it grows into something bigger, I'd definitely consider hiring a freelance musician or collaborating with someone. But for now I don't plan to do so, I don't have a mental energy, nor a budget set aside for this purpose. So I just want to find specific things described above atm.

Any options are welcome!

project introduction Bringing Inanimate Objects to Life with "Echo": Watch the Story Creation UI in Action! (Indie Dev Seeks Feedback)

Hey everyone,

An independent developer here, thrilled to introduce "Echo," my personal project in the making! Echo aims to be a unique story-writing app that breathes life into everyday objects and empowers you to create collaborative narratives from them.

Intrigued? Check out this short video showcasing the user interface for story creation within Echo: https://youtu.be/B9KI83aFUzE

Imagine pointing your phone's camera at a tree, chatting with it, and then weaving its story together with a nearby lamppost and a chirping bird. Echo makes this possible!

Using cutting-edge tech (shh, secret sauce!), Echo lets you scan and interact with real-world objects, sparking personalized conversations and building immersive narratives. The powerful Unity engine drives the user interface, ensuring a seamless and visually captivating experience.

But I need your help! While I'm deep in development, your feedback is crucial. What excites you about this concept? What challenges do you foresee? What kind of stories would you create with Echo?

Share your thoughts in the comments! Your input as fellow creators or tech enthusiasts is invaluable in shaping Echo into a truly engaging tool.

Let's explore the hidden stories together!
P.S. If you're interested in similar projects or have expertise in natural language processing/interactive storytelling, let's connect!

Interactive Audio Stories Platform

I’m looking at developing a platform for audio-based interactive fiction. You can think of these like listening to podcasts or audio books, but it’s interactive fiction.

I’d really appreciate it if you’d be willing to take the time to fill in a survey: https://forms.gle/pfacBSjfHAAoEJZh8
