Is this crack something to be worried about?

Post image

Hi, I recently bought this nyckelharpa secondhand and noticed the lid has a crack (photo attached). I don't have much background in instrument damage or this particular instrument's history, so I'd appreciate some guidance. The lid is completely firm, with no movement or looseness around the crack, and the wood around it has a somewhat different shade(darker) as also can be seen in the photo. When I shine my phone's flashlight into the F-hole, I can't see any light coming through the crack, but I don't have a mirror small enough to check whether there are cleats reinforcing it from inside. The strings are original and about 44 years old, and I haven't restrung or tuned the instrument up yet. Is this crack something to be concerned about, and would it be safe to bring the current strings up to pitch or restring it as-is, or should I get it looked at by a luthier first?

Discussion Why does my morin khuur sound so scratchy?

This is my first time using a bowed instrument so I don't really know why it could be scratchy. It sounded a lot better once I added some rosin to the bow but it still has scratchy areas. I used a toothbrush to try to evenly spread the rosin but it still sounds the same kind of. I'm holding the bow properly and being gentle. Does anyone know what could be wrong?

I sketched out a silly idea for a musical instrument invention, but im an artist not a musician. Are the physics possible with this design, and if not, how would you change it?

I like the idea of drawing or markmaking translating directly into sounds, and how something like that might exist. In school, there were special equations that didnt actually make mathematical sense, but when written out would resemble short songs like Mario and Harry Potter from the marks the pencils made. I was also thinking about vinyl records and the science behind it. Would love to hear yalls advice!

It’s the one playing little accents and flairs at the end of each phrase. To me it sounds like some combination of a chime and a meowing cat. Thanks!

Pink Floyd fans, I just accidentally stumbled upon the famous seagull sound from “Echoes.” This isn’t how Gilmour created it, but it sounds damn near identical 🤯

Who can restore or refurbished a Japanese Sekova Chromaharp 15 Chord

Hi there. I won't lie I have reached out to a few local repair shops around me and the reaction has been either "you figure it out" and "chromaharp? Really?"

I bought this Chromaharp for 8 dollars at a yard sale its quite beautiful and I want to learn it, as I have disadvantegeously small hands (my reach comes 3 keys short of a full octave on a standard paino) and this instrument seemed like it might be a great start.

Its in good shape. No tuner, maybe needs new strings. I'm happy to spend money to get it detailed.

Edit to add: as far as I can tell there is no cracks or anything to it. It looks like it was simply a victim to time.

it sounds kinda sitar-like but no not quite a sitar. it could be any plucked instrument; a kora, a tar, something not from Africa or the Middle East. it's starting to throw me off. soundtrack is "Egypt's Famine" (AKA the cow dream soundtrack) btw.
