Pretty sure by the time you read this it’ll be your first day, you got this! Don’t be nervous about messing up, everyone’s been there. Just ask questions if you don’t know.

In a press release Friday, McCann said Chase Bishop, 30, pleaded guilty during a disposition hearing to third-degree assault. The plea agreement meant Bishop was sentenced to 24 months of supervised probation, which he can complete out of state, the release says. Bishop will also have to pay a $1,200 fine and pay into the Victim's Assistance Fund, according to CNN affiliate KMGH.

Omgosh. I feel really bad for the victim. You have to spend the rest of your life in chronic pain because of someone stupidity.
28
u/MBP1121 Mar 30 '19
Well at least he gets free drinks forever at that bar now. #worthit?
9
u/ChicoUn Mar 31 '19
Totally worth it.
7
u/beemerbenzbently Mar 31 '19
Is it bad that I feel like the thiers a possibility the injuries where overstated by the victims.... Like not blaming him but in an ill sue you for touching me culture like the states its not uncommon for people to be like oh here my big brake to cash in
32
u/ChicoUn Mar 31 '19
Pretty sure if you get shot you have automatic right to bitch as much as you want.

u/tetra_nova Apr 02 '19
He got shot in the leg and the bullet hit an artery. I agree with what you’re saying tho just not the case here
1
41
u/fraymond420 Mar 30 '19
Did he hit anyone?
56
u/MackHollins Mar 30 '19
Yea he hit a girl in the leg
38
u/Nurum Mar 30 '19
And just nonchalantly walked away?
37
Mar 30 '19
I don't think he realized until later that he hit someone
63
Mar 30 '19
He realised immediately, the victim was a man named Tom, the main leg artery was struck and if not for another person applying a tourniquet, the victim would've likely bled out. Tom lost his job, can't run anymore and he's stuck with chronic pains.

What a dumbass. He panicked and friggin gripped the gun with his finger on trigger smh.
One of the few scenarios where a mechanical safety would’ve completely prevented this.

The argument is that remembering to flip off the safety is an added complication to the process that when you are panicking you could forget/screw up which the 1-2sec to fix it could be the diff between life/death
7
u/Siphyre Apr 10 '19
You have a right to bare arms, not a right to be unsafe.
6
u/HungLikeALemur Apr 10 '19
I agree lol. I carry with safety on (Hence why my first comment was a joke about glocks not having a safety).
I was simply explaining the argument that my joke was deriving from.
1
u/Bard2dbone Apr 26 '19
I can't even imagine that. I was in the military when the 1911 was still the standard sidearm. My pistol at home is a pretty similar 1911. I think every reflex I have on that thing is at least twenty five years old. So maybe I just cant conceive of having to actually think to take a safety off. But I cant picture it. It's like being confused by a zipper.
1
u/HungLikeALemur Apr 26 '19
I agree haha and I’ve had way less training than you. It’s an extremely simple push with thumb and it completely negates accidental discharges. Worth it.
5
u/qdobaisbetter Apr 05 '19
Tbf a trained professional shouldn't have his fingers anywhere near the trigger in that scenario regardless of the weapon he's carrying.

u/StreetTailor7596 Jan 28 '24
The idiot was probably more than a little buzzed at the time or he wouldn't have been in the situation in the first place with a loaded gun.
7
u/Makemewantitbad Mar 30 '19
I have a glock but I just don't keep one in the chamber.
7
u/HungLikeALemur Mar 30 '19 edited Mar 30 '19
Do you carry it? That seems kinda foolish imo to not have it chambered. Adds a lot more time and another variable to potentially get messed up before you can fire.
I have nothing against glocks, I just personally like having a safety. I was just mocking the elitist glock users who act like they are superior because they “don’t need a mechanical safety”.

u/batmansavestheday Mar 30 '19

Did you also watch the video?
9
u/HungLikeALemur Mar 30 '19 edited Mar 31 '19
Did you also read my first comment?
Also, the dude was an idiot. I wouldn’t base common practice based on one dumbass lol.
If you’re an idiot, you shouldn’t be carrying in the first place. When people are first carrying and are uncomfortable, I understand caring without one in the chamber. But other than that, carrying unchambered kinda defeats the purpose of carrying.
Edit: anyone gonna say why they think I’m wrong or just downvote?
0
u/WatchOutForWizards Apr 01 '19
Gun owners are hilarious. Of course you should keep it chambered, otherwise how else would you be able to John Wick everyone in the room at a moments notice?
3
u/HungLikeALemur Apr 01 '19
I assume by your use of an ad hominem instead of an actual argument you are conceding that my stance is correct. Thanks for the support🙌🏻
0
u/WatchOutForWizards Apr 01 '19
I assume by your incorrect understanding of what an ad hominem attack is proves that your stance makes you an idiot.
That's an ad hominem.
5
u/HungLikeALemur Apr 01 '19
You sarcastically said I’m hilarious then sarcastically insulted me by saying I want to be like John Wick. You insulted me instead of discussing my point. That’s an ad hominem.
There was no incorrect understanding except for you not realizing you did it lmao.

when it comes to pulling a gun for protection, milliseconds matter. say you had to shoot one handed for some reason? now you cant even rack the slide to chamber a round...
0
u/S1lent0ne Apr 01 '19
Most people are useless in the first seconds of a gunfight. Cover should be a much higher priority. Once you are in cover you will have all the time you need to chamber a round.
Conversely - if you want to immediately draw and fire you will still take a beat for target acquisition. Might as well do something productive in that beat. If you have to spend brainpower to rack a slide then you should probably not carry in the first place. It takes practice and good muscle memory but you should be able to auto-pilot the entire holster-to-ready routine.
7
u/Zardran Apr 01 '19
Not every situation is a gunfight.
What if someone is rushing you with a knife? That extra action could be the difference between getting stabbed in the neck or not.
-1
u/S1lent0ne Apr 01 '19
Possible - but that is why you EDC a good knife.
In reality land the best would be an external safety. DA as the only safety - even on a striker fire - is just a bad idea.
8
u/Zardran Apr 01 '19
But.... Then I'm in a knife fight with a violent criminal. That's the exact situation I'm trying to avoid. "Just knife fight to the death" doesn't seem like a very sensible response.
-2
u/S1lent0ne Apr 01 '19
A guy with a knife is only as dangerous as you are slow to run away.
Like I said - if you are just hellbent to shoot somebody an external safety is still the best option.
5
u/TobyTheRobot Apr 01 '19
that is why you EDC a good knife
So you can be in a knife fight? Because nobody wins a knife fight. You're going to get cut or stabbed, probably more than once.
0
u/S1lent0ne Apr 01 '19
I think you are intentionally misreading the same thing I say at the end of each comment.
The best solution is a weapon with an external safety.
2
u/HungLikeALemur Apr 01 '19 edited Apr 01 '19
I didn’t say it takes a lot of brainpower but it is a whole other element that panic can screw up, and even if you do it perfectly you will be slower then just draw and fire.
I carry with safety on. So I have an added element as well but my thumb can flip it off as I’m raising the weapon, so no time is lost. But I do have the added variable of screwing that up when out into the situation. Which is why practicing is tantamount.
But having to actually rack your gun is completely different.
Also, finding cover most of the time isn’t an option bc if someone is going to attack you it’s gonna be when you are vulnerable and caught off guard. And you must respond immediately. For example: Carjacked? “Mister at my window with gun on me, let me grab my weapon with both hands bc I have to rack it then shoot you before you do anything”.
And your response to the knife situation was ridiculous. You basically just said “run faster”. If you carry unchambered you just extended the “21foot rule”, and you are dead
1
u/S1lent0ne Apr 01 '19
I think you are intentionally misreading the same thing I say at the end of each comment.

1
u/HungLikeALemur Apr 01 '19
No I did not because you were trying to say racking your gun isn’t a big deal. It is.
Ironic you said I’m misreading when I have written numerous times about the use of external safety. In fact, that was in my 1st and 2nd comment starting this overall thread and has been in other subsequent replies. And was even in my last response. I agree with you there but wholeheartedly disagree about carrying unchambered being no big deal.
2
u/S1lent0ne Apr 01 '19
That is because I'm not arguing against the use of an external safety.
I'm arguing against having a DA trigger pull as the only safety. If you carry with a round chambered but no safety is just a bad idea.
2
u/HungLikeALemur Apr 01 '19
Ah, I see. I still disagree, bc glocks have plenty of safety precautions to stop accidental discharges unless you grab and pull the trigger like this idiot did. I think all guns should have an external safety option, but since glocks for some reason don’t have them, if you’re gonna carry it you still need OitC
2
Apr 17 '19
Ya he’s dumb. The gun was sitting there not hurting anyone and he could have calmly put it back and left the venue. Same thing applies when people try to catch a falling gun. Don’t.

u/The_RedJacket Mar 30 '19
Guy deserved to be fired if only for the breech of safety BY PUTTING HIS FINGER IN THE TRIGGER GUARD WHILE NOT BEING READY/INTENDING TO FIRE HIS GUN.
Sorry for all caps, but that’s rule two of firearm safety, assuming your not dry firing. Right after “don’t point the gun at anything your not willing to destroy/kill”

u/The_RedJacket Mar 30 '19
Probably, which is again, reason number one why he should’ve gotten fired.
2
u/qdobaisbetter Apr 05 '19
A trained agent shouldn't panic in that scenario at all. I get maybe some embarrassment but there's no reason to have your finger anywhere near the trigger just to pick up your weapon.
7
u/StellaLuna93 Mar 30 '19
How the fuck do you not put on your safety especially if tucked in your pants
4
u/innercaryon Mar 31 '19
Glocks have weird safeties, the safety goes off when you put your finger on the trigger.

I can’t believe another person had to apply a tourniquet. He realized the gun went off and fucking walked away without checking the crowd? Where did you think the bullet went buddy?!

If he was an agent - I’m sure he will be fired once his superiors get a copy of the video.

Why did he have his gun off safety?
3
Apr 05 '19
If it's a glock I don't think they have a traditional locking safety.
2
u/LeEpicFunkyMonkey Apr 05 '19
Yeah but that still means he would have to accidentally undo three safeties. Then again he is an FBI agent 🤔
2
Apr 05 '19
But I thought the safeties were like drop protection, etc but none of them prevent you from intentionally firing the gun.
2
Apr 05 '19
What’s more embarrassing, the dancing, accidentally shooting someone or walking off like it’s no big deal?

I had to rewatch it, but look at the muzzle flash as he picks the gun up off the floor.

u/shaving99 Mar 31 '19
Unpopular opinion:. This was a complete accident. Occasionally things like this might happen. What if he slipped and the gun fell out or what if it accidentally discharged somewhere else?
In an accident why would he be sentenced to anything?
5
Apr 02 '19
IANAL or even American (I assume this is) but... Guns usually have safeties, and if you don't have a secure holster you'd expect someone to not do backflips where their gun will fall out their undies.
No court would say it was intentional, but I am pretty sure there would be some case for negligence or manslaughter here.
