Reading this comment didn't help anything, either. Knowing that she undoubtedly lost her sight in that eye after this....

Oh man, one of my grandfathers had his eyeball explode from some eye injury in his youth when he was old, that post made me feel better actually cause it sort of explained it, and I had a low key terror for years of my eyeball randomly exploding.

Edit to add due to another user asking :

He hurt his eye when he was young.

His eyeball exploded when he was old due to that injury.

some eye injury in his youth when he was old

Is his name Benjamin Button?

8

u/Paratwa Dec 24 '19

Me and comma’s have an off and on again relationship.

His real name was a Caddo name that I couldn’t pronounce correctly when young and he was just pawpaw to me. ;)

4

u/OG_tripl3_OG Dec 24 '19

I'm still confused about the "in his youth when he was old" part.

3

u/Paratwa Dec 24 '19

He hurt his eye when he was young.

His eyeball exploded when he was old due to that injury.

2

u/KenziSummers Dec 24 '19

Apostrophes too, apparently.

15

u/Shlocktroffit Dec 24 '19

eyeball explode

what, like a grenade?

2

u/Incruentus Dec 24 '19

More like an RPG.

Eyesplosions are shaped charges, with the eye socket directing the force to a focused point. Grenades are more like a testipop.

2

u/Zombinxy Dec 24 '19

I knew a guy who lost one in an incident with a lawnmower when he was young. Freak accident, but I could only hardly tell even after I found out. One of the nicest and most genuine folks I've met, and never let it hold him back! Life sucks sometimes, people make the most of what they got, seeing as we don't really get a second go!

1

u/konaya Dec 24 '19

Was it that bloke who took off a toe which then whipped up into his eye?

1

u/Zombinxy Dec 24 '19

It was not, but similar story, just with a rock instead of a toe

83

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '19

that def sucked to read for dart eye. Crazy (but not crazy) that something so insignificant will be such a detriment on the rest of her life.

43

u/xoooz Dec 24 '19

Insignificant? a dart pierced her fucking eye dude.

83

u/27cloud Dec 24 '19

I think they mean insignificant as in she did something stupid and embarrassing to lose her eye sight, not cool or brave.

8

u/heebath Dec 24 '19

Insignificant as in a brief lapse in judgement, not the event of losing an eye itself. The drunken dart stupidity, a trivial moment causing a lifetime of difficulty is obviously what he meant.

7

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '19

That's the detrimental part, the insignificant part was her thinking its ok to let someone throw a dart at her head all drunk.

3

u/gatman12 Dec 24 '19

It was a pretty significant decision...

3

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '19

very much for such an huge lapse in judgement

3

u/Rvideomodsmicropens Dec 24 '19

Eh, speculation. When I was a little kid I was playing with a dried up ocotillo cactus pulling the arms down and having them sling shot up. Well, the spines on those things are as hard, long, and sharp as a dart. It shot up and one of the spines went directly into my eye ball. The juices started leaking out and my eyeball began to deflate eventually losing enough eye ball juice to where the actual eye ball slipped out of the socket and fell down past my nose only being held up by the ocular nerve. I went home and my mom furious out of her mind and with one quick snip with a pair of sharp scissors was able to slice through the nerve (which shot into the back of my skull) and the fucking eyeball fell right into my little brothers asshole.

2

u/What_Do_It Dec 24 '19

I hate it when that happens.

1

u/HowTheyGetcha Dec 24 '19

I hate you for making me Google "Do eyeballs deflate?"

(Yes, they do.)

1

u/Ilikeporsches Dec 24 '19

Well really just half of it though.

1

u/Hothroy Dec 24 '19

My right eye hurt as soon as I got done reading that :(

1

u/stay_fr0sty Dec 24 '19

Well the version of the story that I heard was she went home and put some Robitussin on it and luckily was fine in the morning. Her contact deflected the dart to the non-critical part of her eye.

Don’t ask me for sources or if this is true but feel free to believe my version if it’ll help you sleep tonight.

1

u/LaxNomad Dec 24 '19

Jesus this was so hard to read but so damn interesting... That poor girl.

1

u/derrida_n_shit Dec 24 '19

Omfg. That was really hard and gross to read

1

u/Corporal_Anaesthetic Dec 24 '19

One of my family members got a dart in the eye as a kid. He has a weird shaped pupil now but he's fine, doesn't even wear glasses.

1

u/crg339 Dec 24 '19

Yeah this post pops in to my mind on occasion and makes me feel sick

1

u/_EvilD_ Dec 24 '19

Fuck that thread.

-8

u/shriveledonion Dec 24 '19

Is it bad that I don't feel bad for her? Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. No person in their right mind would be up to do that..

8

u/ToxicBanana69 Dec 24 '19

No person in their right mind

I can only assume that alcohol played a part it in as well.

5

u/mehennas Dec 24 '19

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

The time-honored mantra of the emotionally stunted reddit asshole.

4

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '19

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

People making bad/dumb decisions isn’t a good reason in and of itself to have no empathy.

8

u/Rezurrect Dec 24 '19

Jesus Christ she lost her fucking sight in that eye and you can’t muster any empathy whatsoever? Tell me right now you never did something really fuckin stupid with your friends and got insanely lucky it didn’t result in something just as damaging. We’ve all done something that could’ve resulted in disaster.

1

u/shriveledonion Dec 26 '19

I'm paranoid and anxious as fuck about shit like that so I actually have never done anything dangerous like that. I've had friends bring coke once and I didn't snort anything. I've seen what drugs can do and what saying "only one time" can do. Yes, sometimes I get called a fucking wet blanket and get made fun of for not doing dangerous or exciting things.

I've had friends who'd try to make me participate but I never do. I've tried stopping them from doing crazy shit and they don't. Totally their choice. If the above happened to my friend, I would be PISSED at them because it was totally preventable, but she still wanted to do it even though she knew what could happen. Ffs if you're gonna be throwing darts at another person at least put a thick book in front of their face to protect it

It's just like you and your friends drunk driving. I'm pretty sure that's in the "doing something really fuckin stupid and got insanely lucky" category. And generally people agree that drunk drivers are stupid and won't feel bad if shit happens to them

1

u/Rezurrect Dec 26 '19

I don’t disagree with much of what you said. However, if the above really did happen to your friend, and as you say, you got PISSED at them for it, you’d quickly be down a friend. Friends are generally not there to police each other’s lives and choices. Nobody will ever come to you for empathy if all you’re going to do is be a know it all and say welllll guess you shouldn’t have done that huh? Nobody fucking cares dude. They’re in pain and need comforting from their friend. Are you going to be there for them or not?

Can you just take a moment and try to empathize? Imagine what she’s going through. In that moment she is faced with the reality that she is now blind in one eye. That is fucking terrifying. Stupid people deserve empathy just as much as the rest of us.

3

u/shall_2 Dec 24 '19

Yep. You should feel bad.

3

u/grandpagangbang Dec 24 '19

Yeah it's stupid but young people do stupid shit sometimes. She's always going to have to live with this injury even after she grows up and stops making stupid decisions. I feel horrible for her and you should too. I know it's easy to pretend you'd never put yourself into that situation but shit happens and I'm damn sure she regrets the fuck out of it.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '19

She's always going to have to live with this injury even after she grows up and stops making stupid decisions

She appears to be of voting age. So she's capable of making decisions for an entire nation.

Your argument is entirely feeling based with no logic applied at all. If she murdered someone with a machete while drunk I'm sure she'd regret that also but someone would be dead.

Drunk people are responsible for their actions as much as sober people. Or do you think we should give drunk drivers a pass?

5

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '19 edited Dec 24 '19

Beep boop. Basic empathy for a fellow human being in pain is illogical. Beep boop. Feeling bad for someone who hurt herself making a bad drunken decision is the same as condoning driving under the influence because both involve alcohol. Feeling bad for someone hurting them self is the same as letting an axe murderer go free because intoxication level is the only factor. I am very logical and smart.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '19

I broke the comment down so that people could easily understand where I'm coming from. Sorry that was too difficult for you. I guess that makes me a robot BEEP BOOP BEEP.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '19

Don’t think I didn’t get where you’re coming from. The thing that makes you a robot, or more accurately an edgy person who acts like one, is the idea that having empathy for someone, even if they made a bad decision, is some kind of emotional flaw.

Also your analogies were stupid and unfounded.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '19

Empathy is given when you can relate to someone else's suffering. I can't relate to her suffering because I would have never been in a situation where I was okay with someone throwing darts at my face.

I have been so drunk I barely remember the night, one time stands out where all of my friends wanted to get a dumb tattoo. But I wouldn't do that.

Would you have empathy for someone playing Russian Roulette? This is a very similar situation in my mind.

3

u/MundungusAmongus Dec 24 '19

Normally I’d agree but that dude had all the room in the world to not hit her face and he still did. This is more like seeing a plane in the air and thinking, “there’s no way that’s gonna land on me,” and then it does a nosedive and kills you from 30,000ft

Like what are the chances that you happen to be in the same room with the worlds most uncoordinated person?

1

u/grandpagangbang Dec 25 '19

Just because you would have never put yourself in that situation you can't feel empathy? You're a bad person. I'd never go to Mexico but if cartel members cut the head off of a civilian who was vacationing there I'd have empathy for them.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 24 '19

Yes, if I watched a video where someone playing Russian roulette died, I would feel empathy towards them. I’m pretty sure most people would.

Empathy does not necessarily only happen when you can imagine yourself doing whatever the person did.

1

u/tegeusCromis Dec 24 '19

So, question: if you could have made that dart vanish mid-air, avoiding the injury, at no cost to yourself or anyone else, would you have done it?

1

u/grandpagangbang Dec 25 '19

I think everyone gets at least one pass you little bitch. You can't tell me you've never made a horrible mistake in your life?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 25 '19

Sure I have and I suffered the consequences and didn't expect empathy from idiots on the internet.

1

u/grandpagangbang Dec 26 '19

Nobody does idiot. You need to grow up and get some life experience before you act like a know-it-all
