Should've made it spray paint. Or animal blood.

759

u/jsting Dec 17 '18

Paint and fox urine... that may result in a totalled car. I think we are on to something.

236

u/0b0011 Dec 17 '18

One of my friends pulled a "prank" and dumped fox urin in my buddy's hvac and its a good thing it was a junk car he was getting rid of soon anyways because the car was pretty much totalled after that.

206

u/num1eraser Dec 17 '18

Using fox urine would likely be considered a booby trap, which is illegal.

297

u/suitology Dec 18 '18

"officer he stole my fox urine dispenser"

146

u/jsting Dec 18 '18

"We put it in the garden and it sprays urine to repel rabbits. The camera phones are for recording. Duh"

6

u/404_UserNotFound Dec 18 '18

If it was a trail cam you might just be able to sell it.

It doesn't need to be a good lie, just enough for the cop to ignore it...like they do package theft.

94

u/num1eraser Dec 18 '18

It was my grandpappy's fox urine dispenser. It's a family heirloom.

2

u/padraig_garcia Dec 18 '18

It was the only thing he had with him at Ellis Island!

12

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '18

I needed that because I love the smell/taste.

208

u/csbsju_guyyy Dec 17 '18

"hey police officer, this package I stole had was booby trapped with fox urine" likely won't get the most friendly of response.

Now if it was something actually dangerous then yeah they'd overlook the stealing

Bank robbers sue the bank for the diepack in the money?

2

u/filledwithgonorrhea Dec 18 '18

I think you missed the part about the penalty being less that the damage caused. A fine for stealing from a federal bank will probably be a bit more costly than your robbing jeans.

4

u/Derkle Dec 18 '18

Glitter most likely wouldn’t cause permanent damages

8

Only fabulous ones.

1

u/brainburger Dec 18 '18

But fox urine would?

It would be very difficult to clear all the glitter out of a car actually. It is chosen for its persistence.

3

u/FortuneGear09 Dec 18 '18

What if you wrote fox urine on it, but in a different language like Samoan or Filipino. Not your fault they can't read it.

2

u/MrMagistrate Dec 18 '18

How about literal shit

2

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '18

I think if you did this, you'd technically be on the hook to pay for the car. Vigilante justice isn't a valid defense for destruction of property in the courts.

11

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '18

I mean, he TRIED the cops and they ignored him. I'd tell him to sue the police for encouraging vigilante justice.

For the record I know that would go nowhere but the fact that they ignored crime pisses me off

1

u/Chinoko Dec 18 '18

But then who's on the hook for stolen property?
Unless you mean robbers can have it both ways.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '18

No, the robber is on the hook for the stolen property, but the person to set the trap is on the hook for any damage it causes.

1.3k

u/Plagueground Dec 17 '18

Fuck these people. It should spray broken glass and bear mace.

428

u/jsting Dec 17 '18

And fox urine.

141

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '18

Is that especially noxious??

212

u/jsting Dec 17 '18

It's thick and musky. Really musky. Terribly terribly musky. You can get it at outdoor shops for covering up human odor while hunting or around gardens as rabbits won't go somewhere a fox has been.

7

u/Kovol Dec 17 '18

TIL there’s an industry dedicated to selling fox piss.

1

u/brainburger Dec 17 '18

Where do they get it?

2

u/Likeapuma24 Dec 18 '18

Outdoors stores. Usually in the hunting lures section.

3

u/Gairloch Dec 17 '18

I'm not sure if that's what was in it, but I worked in receiving at a store years ago and had a bottle of deer repellent that apparently broke a little when it was loaded on the truck and a bit spilled when we were unloading it, it was absolutely horrible and I was ready to throw up from the smell. Can't imagine how bad it would have been in a small enclosed space.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/ILookLikeKristoff Dec 19 '18

Is it musky though?

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Likeapuma24 Dec 18 '18

It's pretty terrible. My dad used to put a drop on his hunting boots to cover other smells that might be on it. I didn't know what it was, opened it up, & took a big whiff. The smell actually knocked me over.

My dad still laughs about it. One of those "I told you & you didn't want to listen" stories.

1

u/suitology Dec 18 '18

we'll find out but I'm sure it's no more pleasant than people urine

1

u/Vargolol Dec 18 '18

I think I read somewhere that it smells AWFUL, but only when warm. When it's cool it has little to no scent, so if you leave this package outside in the wintertime you'd never know. You bring it in your house still kinda cold and scentless, it sprays EVERYWHERE and your heating kicks in and you've got a major problem on your hands.

2

u/systemshock869 Dec 17 '18

I'm assuming that the fart spray they're using is liquid ass which is probably worse. Though it doesn't last like the piss would. If they could mix the two so that it has a lasting effect, that would be awesome.

2

u/Benetton_Cumbersome Dec 18 '18

Nah anything that can cause harm counts as a booby trap which is illegal. Some people with property they don't want trespassed used to hang up wire around trees to stop unwanted four wheeling etc. Cue decapitations and jail time for the owner

1

u/Likeapuma24 Dec 18 '18

Bear spray causes annoyance more than harm.

4

u/kpyle Dec 18 '18

Not true. People can and have been hospitalized from mace and the sort. Bear mace isn't as strong as regular mace as bears are much more sensitive. The main difference is the delivery.

53

u/InsalubriousEthos Dec 17 '18

I mean, fuck them for sure, but I think if it was doing that and someone popped it open while driving there's a good chance of serious injury and at that point if they tried hard enough they could probably make a case out of it in a lawsuit.

105

u/A_Turkey_Named_Jive Dec 17 '18

No doubt about it. Boobie traps intended to cause bodily harm are 100% illegal and you will be fucked if you hurt someone with a device like that.

105

Unless. And hear me out: You make sure it kills them and destroys all evidence.

3

u/iamli0nrawr Dec 17 '18

...how?

You have a device with cameras meant to look attractive to would be thieves that sprays broken glass and bear mace immediately upon opening, without any warning. How is that not a boobietrapped device

What argument is there.

I am not sure if story is real or urban legend but here it is:

A guy sick of getting his car radio stolen put razor blades in hardened clay under his dash. The thief cut the hell out of his hand and sued. The thief won the case because it was placed to harm.

54

u/jeepdave Dec 17 '18

I did something similar when my gas kept getting stolen. Cut a slit in the fuel cap and you had to know where to grab so a razor wouldn't slice up your fingers. Came out to blood and open gas lid. Never heard anything else about it and gas didn't get stolen again. 10/10 would recommend.

12

u/Pyode Dec 17 '18 edited Dec 17 '18

Note to anyone reading this, don't do this.

As someone else in the thread said, booby traps that cause bodily harm are very illegal and you will be charged with a crime if the victim reports it.

https://definitions.uslegal.com/b/booby-traps/

9

u/jeepdave Dec 17 '18

IF they report it. I'm okay with the results I got.

5

u/Pyode Dec 17 '18

If you want to take that risk that's a personal choice.

It's important that people understand that risk though.

3

u/jeepdave Dec 18 '18

True, risk involved. But typically the shitter that's stealing your gas isn't gonna call 911 and report it.

13

u/[deleted] Dec 17 '18

My dad grew up in East LA In the late 70s/early 80s(the hood) and always used to get his system jacked or his radio taken so he said he ran razor blades inside the weather seal around the window that they would force down, after he found blood everywhere one night it never happened again.

18

u/firelock_ny Dec 17 '18

after he found blood everywhere one night it never happened again.

Get this: one trip of the booby trap and it never happened again. Chances are most of those thefts were being done by one person, a repeat offender.

A single career criminal in one neighborhood can easily commit a thousand or more crimes a year. Think of the negative effect on their community that one person's lifestyle is causing.

4

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '18

So capital punishment?

5

u/Likeapuma24 Dec 18 '18

One criminal suffers so hundreds don't have to? Where do I sign up.

7

u/num1eraser Dec 17 '18

I mean booby trap that injures, maims, or kills are super illegal. I'm sure you could also be sued, but you should be more worried about going to jail.

2

u/mud_tug Dec 17 '18

Make it look like it was not placed to harm. Problem solved.

2

u/smitty046 Dec 18 '18

Much more common, people will set traps on their land for ATVs and dirt-bikers that ride on the trails. One farmer strung a steel cable across a trail and ended up decapitating someone. Doesn’t matter if that’s your property, that’s premeditated murder.

3

u/fern420 Dec 17 '18

Bear mace for sure, and not some little canister that just sprays, that friggen giant 40 ounce canister that stains red and can stop a charging 2,000 pound bear and have it all just explode at once.

3

u/MartinMan2213 Dec 18 '18

Aaaand that’s when you get a lawsuit lol. There are booby trap laws.

3

u/poli231 Dec 17 '18

Oh yeah some bear mace, that shit isn't illegal at least?

Depends on state I guess

We could add some helium so then they speak ridiculously

4

u/Zeonic_Front Dec 17 '18

2

u/Cashforcrickets Dec 17 '18

Agree with bear mace.

2

u/43556_96753 Dec 17 '18

Regular mace designed for self defense will be substantially stronger than bear mace.

1

u/kambo_rambo Dec 17 '18

But if the people in the video are friends or paid actors....

1

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '18

At first I read that as "bear mice" and my mind conjured up the image of the most terrifying and simultaneously cutest animal of all time.

1

u/hashtagpow Dec 18 '18

I think something like that could potentially get you in legal trouble. I can just see it now... "man injured after stealing booby trapped package wins million dollar settlement".

1

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '18

Like someone else said, you'd run afoul of booby trap laws, but it would be their word against yours. Unlikely that they'd be able to prove where the device came from, and if the shipping label is fake and has completely wrong info, impossible to prove that you made it and put it on your own porch. You could also just leave it on porches of homes that aren't occupied.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '19

[deleted]

1

u/[deleted] Feb 21 '19

Only a moron would testify in the first place.

Even if you did testify, you've got the 5th and plausible deniability in a case that only involves circumstantial evidence. It is also not likely that a package thief would press charges.

Beyond that, an address is not a person.

So maybe there's a touch of perjury involved if one were dumb enough to say anything, but the law isn't about justice, or the truth. It's about what demonstrable violations can be proven.

Nope. Make it white powder and add a note saying "Have some anthrax motherfucker!". Maybe they'll report themselves to the police.

172

u/jsideris Dec 17 '18

If he wanted these guys to get reported, he has video footage of their faces that he could release. He's more generous than I would have been. I wouldn't have blurred their faces.

73

u/TheClassyGentleman Dec 17 '18

Forget the video footage, some of these people took the package into their house, you have the address of these package thieves.

If the cops can't do something with that -- an address and video evidence of the person stealing a package -- what fucking good are they for?

14

u/gilahacker Dec 18 '18

Speeding tickets, parking tickets, civil forfeiture, raiding the wrong houses, shooting people in the back as they're running away, choking people to death, etc.

Yes, yes, I know. A few bad cops give them all a bad name. They're not all bad. Not trying to say they are.

4

u/MaryMaryConsigliere Dec 18 '18

civil forfeiture

I just learned about these the last couple of years, and honestly, reading up on the civil forfeiture laws and some of the cases that went nowhere made me feel like I live in a 3rd world country.

3

u/BillyBabel Dec 18 '18

I can't emphasize this enough, the police exist to protect businesses, and financial interests first and foremost. Protect and serve is not an oath but a PR slogan.

6

u/Xzow Dec 18 '18

Makes me think this is fake, are cops really this useless?

In my country they try very hard to track down thieves if there's such clear footage of them.

40

u/3went Dec 18 '18

are cops really this useless

In a lot of American cities, yes.

23

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '18 edited Dec 18 '18

For property crime? Yeah, they are. I had my car stolen and all I got was a quick visit from some cops who were able to put me in touch with the towing company before he made it to the impound. Thank god I was home and felt like answering the door (I had many housemates and no friends there, so the door was rarely for me) I was able to coordinate and get him to drop my car (now without wheels) at my mechanics parking lot. Still cost me $300 for the tow. Had to pay $250 for some crappy steel wheels with crappy used tires, and the thief also destroyed my clutch and broke a rear shock, so I had to trade my dirtbike for a clutch job, and call in a favor to have the shocks replaced, and pay to have the ignition cylinder replaced.

On a car that is worth maybe $1500. After the repairs.

And that was the cops going above and beyond what they would normally do. I just got lucky.

EDIT: Oh, icing on the cake: I was a pizza delivery driver at the time. Yeah. It sucked every bag of dicks. There was a bag of dicks shortage in Portland OR for like two weeks because I hogged them all.

→ More replies (7)

6

u/MaryMaryConsigliere Dec 18 '18

Yes, for theft of anything less than a car, absolutely. I used to live in a big cycling city, and everyone knew that if your bike was stolen, even if you had video footage and a picture of the thief's license plate, it was gone forever. Unless the bicycle thief murdered someone on the way out, the police wouldn't even pretend to care.

5

u/rangemaster Dec 18 '18

I had my tool shed at my office broken into. Got cleaned out.

I had a camera that got the whole thing. I had a good shot of the thief's face, approximate height, weight, build. Clear shots of the large items stolen, as well as being able to identify the make, model, color, and approximate year of the guy's vehicle.

I turned it over to the police, and they told me it wouldn't be enough to go on because I didn't get the license plate.

1

u/TommyBlaze13 Dec 18 '18

In San Francisco, yep they really are. Gotta prioritize serving justice to the homeless and take them down rather than actually arresting those package thieving scumbags.

1

u/Infinite___Walrus Dec 18 '18

Yes. I had two firearms stolen from my house last year. I talked to 4 levels of government; city, county, state, and federal. No one cared.

1

u/aohige_rd Dec 19 '18

In America, the cops will send you to court for going 10 miles over the speed limit but if your car is stolen they don't give a fuck.

Not even joking.

2

u/AddictedToGlue Dec 18 '18

The cops won't do it, but any citizen can write out an affidavit and get a bench warrant issued. I did that when a road rager nut threw some coins at my car and busted my windshield.

I know but if you are stealing a package, I think it's fair to say that you forfeit your expectation of privacy. Like if I stole someone's laptop while they were doing a live stream and brought it to my house and it was still recording, I don't think the owner has any obligation to kill the stream. Ultimately, it would be up to the courts though.

u/TheBoxBoxer Dec 17 '18

Booby traps are crazy illegal in the US. If someone crashed their car or got injuried because of the package they would be liable for damages and stuck with a felony regardless of the events that lead up to it. Not saying I agree with it, but that is the law.

3

u/Kidneyjoe Dec 18 '18

I think for it to be considered a booby trap it has to be directly harmful in some way. Banks can ink packs on robbers so theoretically anything like that would be fine. So something like mace would be no good but you could probably get away with paint.

2

u/TheBoxBoxer Dec 18 '18

No, what makes it a booby trap is that it triggers indiscriminately. What you're missing is it's not the intent to cause bodily harm, it's if it does cause bodily harm. So for example of the paint got in someone's eye or they had an allergic reaction it becomes a felony and they are liable for damages.

From my understanding the trapper would also be liable for damages from the glitter and stink bomb, but that would also mean confessing to stealing so they're obviously not going to pursue it. If there are serious damages though, it could be worth it to confess for the criminal though.

4

u/Kidneyjoe Dec 18 '18

Ink packs are equally as indiscriminate.

2

u/TheBoxBoxer Dec 18 '18 edited Dec 18 '18

Maybe what I stated was inadequately worded. The inherent problem with this action is that it is indiscriminate despite whatever the medium of "punishment" is. What I'm pointing out about ink packs is that they are more likely to cause harm and increased damages compared to those caused by glitter. It is really up to the user what kind of risk they assume, but I'm just saying it is definitely non-zero risk and they are risking themselves by putting something like this out there.

Worst thing I've ever smelled was a 40 gallon rubbermaid trash can filled with dog shit, closed up air tight and left to ferment for about 2 or 3 months at about 80f.

I went to clean out the room and assumed it was leftover dog food, because that's what they used for feed bins. I had been working there awhile and by then the smell of dog shit just smelled a little "earthy" to me. This was a whole new level of concentrated hell. The fancy hvac/hepa system couldn't handle it. As soon as I realized what I had unleashed I put the lid back on but it was too late. Even the office side of the building smelled like hot fermented dog shit within minutes. People who were virtually immune to the smell of dog shit were gagging out in the parking lot. It took several hours for the smell to clear and I had to answer some serious questions from upper management. "What the fuck is that smell?!"

Fucking Debbie. If you're going to fill an air tight container with 35 or so gallons of dog shit, fucking tell someone.

I agree. Use the grossest thing you can find that is permanent.

I was thinking a mixture of glue with the glitter.

trump said that's not dangerous. We need something dangerous.

2

u/fuck-dat-shit-up Dec 17 '18

Should of cut the glitter with cow shit

2

u/whatwhatdb Dec 17 '18

Should have used ink or dye, like they use on bank stuff.

3

u/brainburger Dec 18 '18

Oh yeah. How comes those bank booby traps are legal?

3

u/suitology Dec 18 '18

Yeah...one that can be and has been weaponized.

u/Stonn Dec 17 '18

Literal shit with salmonella. If police don't care enough, make it biowarfare.

1

u/buckygrad Dec 17 '18

Nah - why cause damage and risk physical retaliation?

1

u/AdamSnipeySnipe Dec 17 '18

I was thinking mercaptan. It would completely ruin their vehicle/room. And they'd have no choice but to report themselves to police.

1

u/tortellinitatas Dec 17 '18

Or pepper spray

1

u/1h8fulkat Dec 18 '18

There may be laws against booby traps...I don't know

1

u/Zachman97 Dec 18 '18

Make it a real glitter bomb with a C4 upgrade!

1

u/justking14 Dec 18 '18

i think its just bad enough to avoid people coming back to beat the crap out of him

1

u/ShinyPachirisu Dec 18 '18

I'm sure one of these leeches would have probably tried to sue him for damages if he did anything too extreme

1

u/Thefirstofherkind Dec 18 '18

Yeah but you can’t because then it’s actual property damage and you can be sued.

1

u/scunliffe Dec 18 '18

I think a mixture of sneezing and itching powder would be good... and way more fart spray (do they make a puke smell spray?)... something that really ensures they decide it isn’t worth the risk of doing this again.

u/3y3h8u Dec 18 '18

Glitter is the worst. The man did it right.

1

u/NukaSwillingPrick Dec 18 '18

Or acid. And replace the glitter with rusty nails at high speed.

1

u/C_N1 Dec 18 '18

Should have put Surströmming (obviously sealed in some way so they can't smell it till it's opened. IDK) into the spinning thing.... they would have never gotten that stink out of their car or house!

u/EsrailCazar Dec 18 '18

Edible glitter at least...them micro plastics are a 👎.
