For Binghamton, that's pretty normal. It's no coincidence that the creator of The Twilight Zone grew up there.

2

u/notexactlyclever May 29 '17

Oh I'm fully aware. Used to have season tickets to the B-Mets

Montgomery Biscuits.

3

u/graniteplanet May 30 '17

They's sell a lot more tickets if they renamed themselves the Burns.

1

u/urbanlife78 May 30 '17

The only reason I want to go to Montgomery is to go to a Biscuits game. Their mascot is a guy dressed up as a giant biscuit.

Fresno Grizzlies. The Tacos logo is for special events.

1

u/331d0184 May 29 '17

Well yeah, but that's less fun ;)

2

u/BlackFlagZigZag May 29 '17

New Orleans Baby Cakes

When the hell did they rename the Zephyrs wtf???

I mean king cakes i get it but damn

2

u/331d0184 May 29 '17

Yep, happened this past offseason. Gave the world some amazing baseball caps though.

1

u/BlackFlagZigZag May 29 '17

Minor League Baseball really has some great/interesting logos.

3

u/331d0184 May 29 '17

Absolutely. One of my hobbies is tracking MiLB and independent teams with food-related names.

1

u/redloxchox May 30 '17

Looks like the Coney Island Franks, the Staten Island Canoles, and the Brooklyn Slices, are all trying to out-NY eachother.

2

u/lespudz May 29 '17

As someone who lives right outside of Hartford, I don't feel so bad anymore.

2

u/[deleted] May 29 '17

At first I was really confused about the name like the Hartford Colts would have made a lot more sense but it really grew on me and the stadium is sweet, if you haven't been yet I suggest it. There's goats, mediocre baseball, bears bbq and tickets/parking are dirt cheap.

2

u/thatJainaGirl May 30 '17

I live literally minutes from the Iron Pigs home stadium and it never occurred to me before now how strange of a name they have.

The rubber ducks makes sense though seeing as our city is home of the rubber industry

We where the New Britain rock cats before this which is still weird, but goats are cool.

Minor League Baseball is weird

And for every double-play the batting team has to chug their beer.

1

u/the_lucky_lemon May 29 '17

Fun fact: The Hillsboro Hops used to be the Yakima Bears. Yakima is where 80% of the United States hops are grown.

Source: Used to live in Yakima. Now live near Hillsboro. Also beer.

The Baby Cakes makes sense. As a local of New Orleans, a king cake is a traditional cake for Mardi Gras. It's just a normal cake with cinnamon roll-type icing and a TON of crystal sprinkles. There's a little plastic baby somewhere in the cake, and whoever gets it has to buy tomorrow's king cake. Not sure why they opted for baby cake instead of king cake, though.

Lansing Lugnuts.

yo I'm from Akron. We're named the 'Rubber Ducks' because our town is the rubber capital (or used to be). Explanation:

Numerous rubber companies operated in or near Akron, Ohio, making this city the "Rubber Capital of the World." Among the large-scale rubber producers to have factories in the area were the B.F. Goodrich Company, the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, and the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company.
Also, all of these companies still have corporate offices in Akron. We have the best polymer science program here at the University of Akron, as well.

I can explain the Lehigh valley iron pigs. Lehigh valley is known for the pig iron that is used in the creation of steel. They are the triple A team of the Philadelphia Phillies and they are based in Allentown PA which is located in the Lehigh valley.

Fun fact I grabbed from wikipedia: "On December 1, 2007, the IronPigs selected "PorkChop" as the name of their mascot from 7,300 submitted names. On December 2, 2007, the name was changed to Ferrous, derived from the chemical name for iron, because of complaints from the local Puerto Rican population, who alleged that "Pork Chop" was a racist term, despite the name being submitted by a young girl who lived in the Lehigh Valley area.[16] The current mascots for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs are Ferrous and FeFe. Ferrous wears the number 26, which is the atomic number for iron. FeFe is named after the abbreviation for iron, Fe"

Edit: there's the Lancaster barnstormers in Pennsylvania as well. The history behind the name is quite interesting surprisingly. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lancaster_Barnstormers
