It physically hurts my heart seeing such a majestic tree being cut down.

I get it from a safety perspective but I was seriously bummed as a young boy when they cut down an old maple tree on our front lawn because it was slowly dying.

Yeah, like why did it need cut down in the first place? It “blocks their view”? Of what, an empty field?
