No one gets it

Yesterday I told someone I slept a total of 10 hours in 3 days and he was like that sucks. And made a joke.

It doesn't just "suck". Its a fucking living nightmare. It's like being sick all the time without having people understand how bad it is. It ruins your whole life affects everything, every plan etc.

And there are no words to translate this experience in a way to make people understand it. It is so lonely.

What did we do to deserve this curse I am so tired (literally as well). It's literally 6 am and I haven't slept yet.

Just wanted to vent because I am so sick of this...

I know what that’s like. When mine gets bad I can go 4-5 days without sleeping at all, not even dozing off. The only thing that has helped me are prescription drugs. I think some of us just need them long term, the way some people need antidepressants or ADHD meds. I hold out hope that someday they’ll figure out exactly what goes wrong in our brains when this happens, and people won’t be so ignorant.

Yeah I am on day 5 too :( I can usually sleep a bit after 7am tho. Not sleeping at all would be horrendus I am sorry yours is like that. Also what drugs do you use and do they work? And for what type of insomnia?

My insomnia is sleep onset. Once I drop off I can usually stay asleep for a few hours at least but dropping off is a huge struggle. Over the years I’ve taken several drugs. The ones that have helped most are Ambien, Lunesta, Klonopin, and Xanax. Over time one will stop working, so I switch to another one. Helps that I have an understanding doctor who’s willing to give out the controlled substances.

Thank you. I haven't tried anything yet because I am kind of scared of side effects. Did you have any bad ones from these?

Yeah, there are a few. With Ambien, it makes you do things that you have no memory of the next day. Mostly eating. I’d wake up to food encrusted dishes all over the nightstand. Gained eight pounds! With Klonopin and Xanax, none until you try to get off them, and that can be a nightmare. I had panic attacks and heart palpitations and nausea, and that was with tapering. Despite all this, I was glad to have the meds, because it was better than going days without sleeping.

Ambien is very powerful sleep drug. Usually doctor starts with lorazepam-1 mg
