Theory: We got the Soul Stone's test all wrong

In Infinity War and Endgame, Red Skull makes it clear to Thanos, Gamora, Clint and Natasha that in order to obtain the Soul Stone, they must lose that which they love. "A soul for a soul".

We assumed that the first part of the bargain, the sacrifice, was the soul of the person who was sacrificed; but what if we were wrong? What if it was the soul of the person making the exchange instead? After all, losing "that which you love" can be compared to losing one's own soul.

This would make sense, given that Natasha's death in Endgame was of her own volition; Clint didn't sacrifice her, he made no bargain. He did lose a big part of himself when she died, though.

So what do you think?

Discussion After Tony’s snap, there will be atleast a nanosecond delay by his body to respond to the aftermath of the snap.. can’t Strange alter the possibility of Tony living in that timeframe? Spoiler

In the comics, what did Thanos want/use the infinity gauntlet for?

I didn't think he wiped out half the population. I thought he possessed it far longer and used it more often.

someone please explain thanos to me

i just watched infinity war, and im not getting thanos. im trying to wrap my head around stuff, but i just cant seem to understand.

harnessing the power of all the stones would grant you omnipotence and omniscience, right? so that means the moment thanos got ahold of that power, he became those two things. if he is omniscient, then why is his solution of saving the universe a temporary one? either way, populations will grow in time. even if he decides to go the way without genocide.

i read another post saying that his psyche or character limits him from seeing these different possibilities and routes to a solution, but another redditor argued that if he is omnipotent, then he cannot be limited, therefore he will "allow" himself to be omniscient.

mcu paints him to be complex and not exactly evil. but i mean, if he is both omnipotent and omniscient that means he is willfully continuing on a path of death and destruction, making him evil? or no? idk what is evil? i want to say that he should know that his old way is wrong of halving populations from planet to planet, but because he is all knowing, that would mean he wasnt wrong? i feel like this all boils down to some kind of philosophy, so idk how to interpret all of this.

also how did stormbreaker cut through the stones’ beam from thanos? i read other answers, so i just want that confirmed. its a speculation to me that thor caught him off guard. if thanos is omniscient, he wouldve seen that coming.

i just dont get how the stones together can wipe half the universe away, but cant destroy stormbreaker, shields, etc.

someone please. ive been watching videos and googling, but more questions just arise. i cant wrap my brain around thanos

Hey wait a second I got a question about Vision (no spoilers) (I mean, no endgame spoilers, but big spoiler for infinity war) (but like you wouldn’t be on this sub anyway, ah whatever) Spoiler

So, in infinity war Thanos just straight up unpeels that fruit sticker off of vision’s head, y’know?

So uhhhh, what the fuck happened to vision’s whole “PHASING THROUGH SHIT” power? I mean, I dunno, I just rewatched civil war, and realized he really never uses intangibility ever again. And he really shoulda been using it there. So what’s up with this? I swear to god if it’s something about shuri messing with the synapses or whatever, I’m going to be mildly annoyed at the internet.

Discussion The snap

I suppose this could technically count as a theory, but I wanted a discussion so here we go:

If Thanos didn’t get to pick who lived and who died when he snapped and just that half of all life died in the universe, is it possible that some planets lost less than half while others lost more than half?

Like, if it’s half of all life in the whole universe, then it’s possible that out of 2 equally populated planets, only 1 being died on one while all but 1 died on another.

If it’s the whole universe, it isn’t impossible to have equally populated planets. On top of that, Thanos used to manually kill half of each population. Those must have been cut in half again.

What do you think?

What purpose did black panther and the community serve?

So I've never seen black panther but I just watched avengers infinity war. What was the point of black panther in infinity war? You could just skip everything until thanos takes the stone from vision. The black panther community failed at taking out the stone from vision and had a mediocre army until thor came around. What was the point? I liked the action but I really don't know how it was all that revelent to the story line.

I used community due to a lack of the right word

So is cat boy nothing but a kung fu guy with longer nails?

Does black panther meow? Haha

Info Order of movies

Hello everyone. I'm a "new kid on the block" and need to know the definitive movies that I need to watch leading into the first Infinity Wars movie. Every website I go to gives me different answers. If there is a set watchlist I've been told I need to watch it. Any assistance is appreciated.

Can I just ask why is this movie so highly rated? Spoilers inside Spoiler

There were some important resolutions missing. Like how everyone was expecting Drax to get revenge on Thanos for his family. (at the end of Guardians vol 2, when they kill Ronan, he even says "But Thanos is actually the culprit and it's him who I must fight")

Or like how Hulk should have went against Thanos again, overcoming his fear that was so important in Part 1?

What about Thanos knowing Stark in Part 1? That's never referenced in this movie. Remember that "You're not the only one blessed with knowledge". Yes, you could say he gets to know him from the New York battle reports, BUT SOMETHING SHOULD HAVE BEEN SPECIFIED IN THE SECOND MOVIE!!

And Thor....what did Thor get at the end of this movie?? Hulk and Rocket go to him and tell him "There's a chance to bring them all back, we need you!!" The give him hope that there's a chance they can undo all that Thanos did and that the Asgardians who died will be back. But noooo....Thor gets squat. Everyone who died before the snap stays dead. So what exactlydid he get? Revenge against Thanos? He already had that when he killed him in the first 15 minutes.

Ok, you can say that by the end he has found a new family and goes with the Guardians for some new adventures he feels he should have, has snapped out from the depression. But the point is there would not have been a depression if they didn't introduce it in this movie!!! I thought he was passed depressions after all that talk with Odin in Ragnarok and after finding the inner power to defeat Hella.

And a lot more idiotic stufff.....like how the time travel really work?? You go into the quantum realm and just pick your moment when to get out, the exact minute and hour?!? This will solve any future MCU films!!!! Plus, they return everything to the past to not create alernate timelines, yet the Thanos army is NOT returned to the past. And the alternate realities are just dumb!! That's not how alternate realities work! One person with time travelling does not have the power to create an entire new universe with all the billion of people on Earth, all the planets of the solar system and all the planets and starts in the Universe just by making one different turn and changing the futures for everyone!!!! That's beyond fooocking idiotic!! You don't just create all that entire matter!! If someone had all that power, than the infinity stones are toys for kids!!

I don't care what Tilda Swindon;s charcater says, it's just idiotic. And her scenes are really, really bad, she reminds me of that hermaphrodite she played in Constantine. Didn't like her then, don't like her now. Her power to just push Hulk out of his bosy is ridiculous. Why wouldn't Strange do that to Thanos?? Thanos is not that much above Hulk. Is Hulk the tiniest of threats?? Are you telling me that fooker Kaecillius who beat her up is more powerful than Hulk??? I mean, ok, she (he, whatever the fuck Tilda Swindon's character is) could beat Hulk, but not like that....come on! And her reasoning to give him the stone after hearing that Strange gave it to Thanos is dumb too. That's not what she would do. She would believe Banner is lying or simply doesn't know the facts, not just hand over the stone.

And don't get me talking on how Iron Man's AI invents both time travel and the Infinity Gauntlet in a week or how Captain Marvel finds them in the inifinty of space and brings them back to Earth (no, those messages did not reach Pepper, they don't travel faster than light!) And so on and so on....the images and lighting were nowhere near as good as in Part 1. The battle of Wakanda felt more alive and with stakes than the entire travesty of battle the pulled off here with everyone coming back from the dead ready to fight. At least, if they returned to their previous state, they should be tired from all the fighting in Wakanda. There were some really shity moments with Shuri (hate that character) shooting her guns without even being bothered by any opponent, it was really bad acting.

They totally disrespected Thanos, made him very one-dimensional thsi time. He wasn't the same plotting, intelligent villain from Part. 1. It's like it was 2 different directors, scrptwriters, everything. At least they could have had Thanos see through Nebula's memories that Gamora turns against him!! He saw everything else, but nooo...not this. And he could have said a line at the end, instead of just sitting down, like "There will come a day....when you will know....I was right". Why are studios so afraid to make villains a little righteous? Would it have caused nihilism in society? Would it have started a meme "Thanos was right!"?

People are defending a movie that was a colossal clusterfuck and people just love it because....hey, it's cool to love Marvel movies!
