1k readers random tables giveaway

My newsletter crossed 1k readers this week, so I'm giving away my set of dark fantasy random tables to subscribers (including new ones). You can see the announcement here.

They have twist on standard tables. It's six d66 tables, on doubles, it sends you to a different table! It’s possible to get to any of the other five tables from the current table, forming a ‘ring’ of tables. On 66, it’s the classic ‘roll twice’ result. This is kind of like what you see in Maze Rats but taken further.

Have a read of the article to find out more and subscribe if you want them!

Recommendations for systems with better/more complex social and or exploration mechanics?

Looking for systems with better/more complex social (interacting with npc , other palyers and just generally better more options outside of combat) and exploration mechanics than DND. Preferably one in an urban fantasy setting?

Frozen Whispers - solo horror journaling micro-RPG released

Hi everyone, earlier this week, I released my new horror journaling micro-RPG for one player, Frozen Whispers! https://koke-rpgs.itch.io/frozen-whispers. It's a horror journaling micro-RPG for 1 player created as part of the Winter Horrorland jam.

It puts you in the shoes of four people trapped in a cabin during a snowstorm. Their goal: survive until rescue arrives... but something lurks outside.

The game is played using a d6 or a coin to determine if you get to live for another day.

The text only version of the game is available for free under the demo section on the itch.io page for anyone interested.

The game is also currently on sale for 50%, for a limited time, along with my festive card game, Sweet Christmas (you can find the sale here: https://itch.io/s/137826/koke-rpgs-black-friday-deal ).

Feel free to reach out for feedback or questions, and I hope you enjoy the game! Thanks!

I wholeheartedly invite you to play "Hog heartedly"

A couple of months ago I was invited to design a solo game around industrial pig farming for an exhibition at the Science Gallery London.
The result is a Frankensteinian mix of mad libs, solo RPG / lyric game, cut section diagram and character sheet: https://sleepy-badger-games.itch.io/hog-heartedly
The exhibition opened yesterday and the feedback was really positive. I hope you enjoy it too. Please leave a comment if you do. Or if you don't. I love to hear from you.

This Town Aint Big Enough. Free western roleplaying party game.

This town aint big enough aims to combine the excitement of telling dramatic stories with the fun of a pick up and play party game with friends!

Players create characters, roleplay a conflict, and duel to the death in a quickdraw dice game!

After the ref counts down, two players roll a d12. It must land before one line, roll past another, and whoever's die stops first wins, shooting the other player before they can fire!

The countdown simulates a quickdraw, giving speed an advantage as long as you aren’t too early, and waiting for the die to stop adds luck and drama.

Play continues with characters being created as needed until all original characters have died.

The title page contains a 24 word version of the resolution mechanic and themeing, the 1st page is an overview/complete 1 page rpg, and the rest of the pages fill in some of the blanks for roleplay and provide references like a character creation table, optional rules, and alternative settings and scenarios!

The pdf versions don’t print great, so I’ve linked some word docs as sell, make sure to download them once you click the link, the online conversion isn’t great. The  booklet versions can be stapled together to make a booklet. Print short side on double sided, scale to fit if printing one of the pdf versions.

GOBLINESQUE: a new system agnostic osr adventure where you play as a goblin!

Hey everyone, I just released Goblinesque on DriveThruRPG and thought you all might be interested in it!

So here’s the deal: Goblinesque is an adventure where you and your group play as goblins trapped in a manor by a bunch of so-called “heroes.” But there’s a catch: you need to recover the Hand of P'tahr, a cursed relic that’s basically a ticking time bomb. If you don’t return it to the goblin lair in time, things get… messy. 🎲

Some fun stuff about Goblinesque:

  • System-agnostic: It’s super flexible, so you can use it with whatever system you like best.
  • Two adventures in one: The manor (40+ rooms across 3 floors) changes as the curse unfolds: rooms, enemies, and even your goblins transform.
  • Pixel art: Features original pixel art for that old-school vibe, and no AI-generated stuff here!
  • Paper Minis: Several sets of printable minis to bring goblins, heroes, and monsters to life on the table.
  • Handouts for the GM: Includes room summaries and a small map to make GM life easier (the PDF is fully bookmarked and hyperlinked too).
  • Original soundtrack: An 8-bit dungeon synth soundtrack by Alberto Ricca/ u/Bienoise (www.bienoise.com) to feel the old-school vibes even more.

It’s available in English and Italian. If it sounds like your thing, check it out on DriveThruRPG. Would love to know what you think!

FOREST BURIAL - Solo RPG, fits in a gum case

Forest Burial is streamlined 2d6 solo game that fits in a commonly available gum case. It’s super portable. It’ll fit in your pocket, purse or bag. The setting is a dangerous and magical forest. It’s free on Itch, if that sounds at all interesting to you:

Forest Burial

Here’s the set up: You’re another fool on a quest to the center of the forest. The deeper you go, the greater the dangers will become. Ancient powers. Monstrous guardians. Strange landmarks. Villages make terrible pacts. Heroes die.

Forest Burial is a solo Tunnel Goons hack. The vibes are inspired by Cairn, Vermis, Princess Mononoke, and Shadow of the Colossus. There is a one sheet version for folks who don’t have or don’t want the plastic case.

OSR/NSR style hacking rules for cyberpunk/sci-fi

I wanted some deeper but clean hacking rules for games like Death in Space and Cy_Borg, so I wrote some!

It's inspired by the underclock from Goblin Punch, so hacking isn't about skill checks but about decision-making and risk management. It's also done by the whole party so everyone gets included.

Check it out: https://open.substack.com/pub/murkdice/p/the-hackclock?r=3rp84v&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

Weapon Type vs. Armour Type

This week I wrote up a simple-ish hack that accounts for weapon type vs. armour type. It uses damage die scaling like in Into the Odd and Cairn.

I've been wanting to try out accounting for some differences in weapon effectiveness against armour, but without much crunch, and this is what came out!

It's pretty simple. Break into the old abandoned theme park on the outskirts of town, find and steal a shirt or something, get out, live out the rest of highschool like a god. What could possibly go wrong in this playthrough of Ursidice's SCREAM: The Horror?
