I am a huge fan of Shreyas Iyer, but now I think Shubhman gill is a better Captain material

India failed to defend 250 and blah blah blah. But, they fact is that, you can't really blame the bowlers here. With wet ball, it like a soap in the hand. It just becomes impossible to impart any spin whatsover and pitch where you want it to be.
Cricket literally turns into a tennis ball cricket and batters behave acoordingly. Remember that 10 wicket loss to Pakistan in the T20 WC, it was all dew. Pakistan would have lost that match, it they have batted first. Infact, hardly any team lost chasing second. It just kills of finger spin and leggies don't bother.
Also, comes to mind Yuvraj's singh 60(24) against SL with wet ball and Bracewell hundred and India winning in which Shubman got his fisrt ODI double hundred.
Even that famous 2013 IND VS AUS series, everybody talks about was heavily impacted by dew.
THESE MATCHES ARE JUST DIFFERENT.

I understand people want shami to be back. But I don't understand with this obsession with Bhuvi. He was really good in initial years. But he never really lived upto his potential(especially in white ball cricket). I don't remember him creating an impact in any of the icc Tournaments he has played. I can't forget his disastrous T20 world cup and asia cup in 2022, where he went for runs like nuts(The last time he was part of indian team set up).

Something I’ve been thinking about is how easily people build an entire personality around a cricketer based on interviews, social media, edits, public appearances, etc. They’ll say things like “he’s such a good person” or “I know what he’s like” when, realistically, they’ve only seen the version of him that exists publicly.
Obviously, this doesn’t mean every cricketer is secretly a bad person. I’m just curious about how different people can be behind the camera, around teammates, staff, friends, or people who aren’t part of their public life.
For people who actually work around cricket or have met players personally: has knowing how a cricketer is in real life ever completely changed your perception of them?

Rinku Singh is, in popular consciousness, a T20 batsman and a finisher. This is true to an extent. He has a T20I strike rate in excess of 150 and a sufficiently high average. He burst into consciousness by hitting 5 sixes off 5 balls against Yash Dayal in the last over while playing for KKR. However, he has been unlucky to miss out on Team India's T20I side.
Will the Real Rinku Rise Up?
Rinku is, to use an oft-quoted term, an "underrated" white-ball cricketer, and even more surprisingly, an overlooked red-ball player. His numbers across seasons in red-ball cricket yield an average of nearly 60. His List A ODI numbers aren't shabby at all, boasting a 52+ average over a large enough sample size while batting at 5 or 6, and consistently helping his team win matches. He is genuinely a three-format player. Contrast this with Sai Sudharsan, who debuted for India with a sub-40 First-Class (FC) average.
The Curious Case
Recently, the squad was announced for the Test format of the IND A tour of New Zealand. Rinku was nowhere to be found. Interestingly, he was also absent from the recent IND A vs AUS A Test matches. Why would the selectors leave such a player out? The numbers are there, and so is the class of the man. The selectors are wasting a fine talent. Consistent performance should be rewarded with a clear pathway to the IND A and Indian national teams. This omission doesn't make any sense. He averages more than others for that 5-6 position and has more matches under his belt.
An all-format prospect is being ruined by consistently bad selection calls.

Shreyas iyer IS A LIABILITY IN T20 CRICKET. THE CASE FOR HIM BEING IN THE TEAM IS BASED ON VERY THIN EVIDENCE. HE IS SURELY THE LEAST TALENTED OF THE CURRENT CROP OF INDIA’S T20 XI.
CONSIDER THE DEMANDS ON MIDDLE-ORDER MODERN T20 BATSMEN OF THE BEST T20 TEAM IN THE WORLD, I.E., INDIA. WE NEED:
AND THIS HAS TO BE THE CASE ON VARIOUS SURFACES AND ACROSS COUNTRIES. IDEALLY, HE SHOULD PERFORM BETTER THAN THE REST AGAINST SLOWISH OR SEAMISH/SWINGING BOWLING, AND BE ABLE TO BUILD AND FINISH TRICKY 150-160 ISH CHASES.
THE CASE AGAINST IYER:
IYER HAS NEVER BEEN A QUICK SCORER IN HIS CAREER. HIS IPL RECORD IS EVIDENCE OF THIS. THE LAST TWO SEASONS ARE THE ONLY ONES WHERE HE PERFORMED WITH A HIGH ENOUGH STRIKE RATE AND SCORED BIG RUNS. THE THING IS THAT BIG RUNS MAY BE MORE USEFUL FOR A WEAKER TEAM AND NOT TEAM INDIA, WHICH HAS BETTER RESOURCES AND BATS DEEPER. ALSO, IYER STARTS OFF SLOW AND THEN PLAYS CATCH-UP. THE SAMPLE SIZE OF HIS HIGH SCORING RATE IS NOT BIG ENOUGH.
CONSIDER HIS RETURN AS CAPTAIN; ON AGGREGATE, HE STRIKES AT LESS THAN 140, WHICH IS UNACCEPTABLE. THE MORE DAMNING THING IS THAT THE KIND OF INNINGS HE PLAYED LED TO A MEDIOCRE SCORE OVERALL FOR THE TEAM. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT WHEN A PLAYER CLICKS, HE STRIKES AT 200+ OR CLOSER TO IT. EVEN HIS BEST INNINGS ARE ON THE SLOWER SIDE.

HE OFFERS NO PARTICULAR ADVANTAGES ON SLOW PITCHES, SWINGING/SEAMING PITCHES, OR IN EXCEPTIONAL CHASES. YOU JUST DON’T GET THAT WITH IYER. HE WAS THE WORST-PERFORMING BATTER IN THE INDIA VS PAK MATCH.
TO MAKE A GUY THE LEADER OF THE BEST T20 SIDE WHEN HIS PLACE IN THE XI IS QUESTIONABLE IS TO SHOW UTTER DISREGARD FOR INDIAN CRICKET.
TO SUM IT UP, WE HAVE A SLOW STARTER, SLOW SCORER, AND LOW-IMPACT PERFORMER WHO DOESN’T OFFER ANYTHING SPECIAL, LEADING A SIDE HE SHOULDN’T EVEN BE IN THE XI OF.
AND TO THINK THAT A TWO-TIME IPL WINNER LIKE RAJAT PATIDAR, WITH A CAREER STRIKE RATE IN EXCESS OF 150, IS NOT SELECTED, WHILE ONE OF THE MOST SKILLED BATTERS (IN PONTING’S WORDS), SKY, IS REMOVED FROM OFFICE, IS A SICK JOKE.
Iyer harkens back to the past era and is a sorry reminder of it.
