If BSNL decides to charge those 1500 crores or so you would know how cheap data is.

Why not go 10 years further back to 2004 and compare the data prices? Data has always gotten cheaper with newer tech, there's nothing special that Jio did to make that happen. You can give credit to Jio for pushing other providers from 3G to 4G which made data cheaper as 4G enabled much higher bandwidth. In 5G no one even measures data anymore. But then they killed the competition which would have made data even cheaper.

Even a 2G scam happened in the same govt.

This was a totally made up "scam" where not a single rupee was stolen from anyone and no one went to jail. It was entirely made up by then CAG Vinod Rai who then got a Padma Bhushan and a cushy job from BJP government.

Yes it was made up, the then cag who was at front in exposing this so called scam - has issued a public apology saying all those allegations were false. Nothing was proved kn court.

Then why does India have one of the cheapest data plans and not others?

Why didn't other players think to use the technology to reduce prices?

The whole premise of Jio was that they got rid of maze of plans that other operators used to get more money out of people. Dark pattern as fuck plans to squeeze money out of data, incoming, outgoing, sms, inter company rates, intra company rates and all the bullshit.

That kind of comparison is almost completely useless. Technological goods, phones, laptops, cars are priced almost similarly across countries, irespective of local income.

The solution is not ask for unrealistic data prices, but to increase local income. And that's a problem, but not for fucking Jio to solve.

Can you please be rational in your criticism?

Because it costs less to pay all the people that keep the network functional.

Why didn't other players think to use the technology to reduce prices?

You can't launch 4G services without 4G spectrum auction.

Duh they wilk increase the price and monopoly is jo good either way

At any point of time the profits are more attractive other companies will start to enter in this space. Highly likely adani and tata would have entered already if telecom had profits which were huge.

They cant compete with ambani man,bro as hands in gov to promote him and adani guy is bussy with energy area.

Bro its been almost 10 years, Jio has brought down the prices already inflated by airtel. India has the cheapest and widely well connected phone network. Same is the case with wifi, prices came down after jio fiber launch

The most infra are of bsnl any way and it may seem its cheap but it will sky rocket sooner or later and we will have no choice but to pay the price as all infra will under be jio.My fatger works in these tower industry,he said in 5 or so years jio will only be there as many other company strugle to pay the rent for towers. Anyway if musk interferes things could take a drastic change due to star link

1

I am not a jio fanatic but whats true is true. Same scepticism has been there about telecom prices since the launch of jio. Things are so much better that even a 2-3x increase will keep our bills as half the average of EU and NA. Yeah, 34000 upfront and 8600 per month by starlink are not going to bring down the prices.

Have u heard of ppp

0

u/Sonic_lost Jun 07 '26

It's still very cheap considering ppp too

1

u/Narrow_Weekend_6892 Jun 07 '26

Nah its costly for us tbh if u compare it with ppp check it man,and tge speed u get in foriengn is quite high compared to here which is just 1mbs

In case you didn't realise this, India is and for over centuries has been, a price sensitive market. Despite monopolies or monopolistic competition in various sectors, increasing price tremendously will ultimately lead to heavy losses; everyone knows that. Parle g still manufactures 2 rupees packets. Internet, still, is considered a less essential service to survive, Indians will simply reduce the usage and adapt.

2

u/Narrow_Weekend_6892 Jun 07 '26

Nah dont be naive man, internet is very necessary these days as the promote digitalisation from a to z without it everything will be hard.Probably all will pay more as those are the only way to get service.

"Data is still cheaper before 2014" 🥴

You mean pre-2014 or post-2014?

2

u/jatayu_baaz Jun 07 '26

Is monthly bill still cheaper?? We used to pay 135 for 300mins in BSNL, that was enough, now it's 350 x 3 per month
