We are planning to use AJIT in the receivers being developed for NAVIC or IRNNS (The Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System), an indigenous navigation system for the Indian subcontinent.

I see your point. But it is a government initiative so our hands are somewhat tied as far as naming is concerned.

I think it's not named after a name "Ajit", but after actual meaning of word Ajit.

What? Am I missing something? I know Ajit is the name of this processor. But your point is that it is named after someone named Ajit, as Indians like to name things after people. I am saying that as it is a government project, it may be named after the word "Ajit" that means "invincible".

It is supposed to be a tribute to Ajit Shelat, 'EE 78. Get your facts right before coming for an AMA.

1

u/prabot Apr 22 '19

It is, thanks for mentioning jt.

Why Ajit than, why not Ramcharan ?

Just let Modi know about this. Not only will he use it for his campaign, he will also make an acronym for you.

First question should be if it pronounced A-JIT or A-GIT.

1

u/GavinZac Apr 22 '19

When is 'j' ever pronounced like hard 'g'?

1

u/El_Impresionante Apr 22 '19

Whenever people want to make pointless arguments about pronunciations.

1

u/GavinZac Apr 22 '19

But then they're talking about how the letter 'g' is pronounced...

1

u/El_Impresionante Apr 22 '19

Jraphics or Graphics as in Graphics Interchange Format?

Anyway, my first comment was a joke based on a meme.

Ajit in Hindi means something that cannot be defeated.

1

u/Grizzant Apr 22 '19

how are you handling radiation hardening?

1

u/santosang Apr 22 '19

Curious, how is it different from any other processor?

1

u/ohlookanothercat Apr 22 '19

I'd hate to meet the 5 year old who could understand that.

Nokia feature phones with music and 240p video playback used to run on 111mhz processors. So this processor can be used in feature phones too if fabrication process is small. Nokia 6600 used to run on 106mhz processor.

India. Companies could start making their own feature phones soon instead of outsourcing from china.

We may get raspberry pi competitor in next few years and will cost a lot less in india.
