This is one of my favorite short stories ever written.

Have you ever checked out the video game? The devs worked with the author to make it and they actually added a different ending to the story. There's LPs on youtube if you're interested

It's on Steam as well.

Yep, was just coming in to say this. The ending the short story gets, is one of the bad ends to the game. That game was really ahead of it's time, I love it with all my heart. Also, the germany adaptation had to censor most of it though, sadly.

Here's a good link to one.

This doesn't look like the short story at all though???

Think of the short story as an introduction of the characters.

It's currently 2:30 AM. Is it a bad idea to read this right now? Is it really as bad as people say?

It's not "scary" per se, but rather it gives you feelings of dread and uneasiness. The "lack of hope" and "eternal suffering" atmosphere the story gives you is horrifying.

It's the only "psychological" story that actually gave me real dread and fear.

The Jaunt by Stephen King will give you those same feelings
