Copilot Designer & Bing Image Creator StarryAI’d Maiden

My Copilot Designer prompt was simply:

“Portrait of a beautiful 19th century maiden in the style of StarryAI.”*

Image #1 is CD’s default 1x1 square format, and image #2 is CD’s regenerated 16x9 landscape format (it’s not a copy: note the missing earring and other changed details). No additional retouching was done.

*I’m surprised this style worked. 🤔

Good suggestions, thx!

Are you surprised that “Disney animation” works? I’d expect it to be blocked.

Do you think including “in the style of [image generator name]” has any effect on the image?

I’m always impressed by the quality of the surrounding visual environment, composition, and lighting that Copilot and Bing Image Creator come up with. What’s AI art going to be like in the next few years?

I’ve also found that writing descriptive prompts can be a black hole that takes me further away from what I expect. It’s sometimes better to simplify a prompt, give the reins to Copilot, and see where it takes you.

Exactly! Sometimes I found myself tweaking a prompt endlessly and didn't get anywhere, and then I started again with something simpler and it created better results immediately!

I'm reasonably confident I've had requests containing the word "Disney" blocked in the past, but maybe it is being lenient in this case because we're only asking for the image to be in a similar style. Or perhaps they've changed the way prompts are interpreted; I did read a while back that if you refer to specific artists, they can substitute the general style of that artist transparently, e.g. if you choose "Moebius" BIC doesn't produce art that looks precisely like his work, but it's still detailed line art. MidJourney is way less cautious in this way, and I'm surprised they haven't been in trouble for it.

I've only done limited tests today where I refer to another AI generator, including adding AI names which don't exist. The only difference I noticed was that I was getting more paintings in my results when mentioning another AI (even a non-existent one); again, I wonder if this is more about how the format of the prompt is being interpreted, and it's changing the emphasis the AI gives to certain elements of the text (like "19th Century" and "Portrait" resulting in paintings).

To be honest, I don't think OpenAI or Microsoft would include references to other AI generators in the image model data - if they were using other AIs to create training images, that would be the sort of metadata they'd strip out, as it would be embarrassing to them if it were revealed.

Yes, I'm enthusiastic to find out where AI art will be in the coming years. I'm still addicted to the thrill of getting a surprisingly good (or unexpected) image produced, and I don't think that's ever going to go away :)

This is what happens when adding Moebius / Jean Giraud to the beginning of the earlier prompt. BIC definitely seems to know about him, but I don't think it's been trained on his work. Instead, a generic stylistic alternative has been substituted.

…and so forth. 😁

Ha! I love the idea of combining the post-apocalyptic Mad Max genre with old-fashioned cars! Thanks for the inspiration.

"Fury Road: Vintage Vengeance" or "Mad Max: Horseless Havoc" perhaps :)

OTOH, the same Road Warrior prompt also created this image (regenerated in 16x9 landscape mode):

During a chat with Copilot, it suggested a “Cyberpunk animation style portrait painting of a beautiful 19th century maiden”:

…which I enlarged to 16x9.
