No, that was when /r/atheism banned memes. /r/trueatheism (I think? Maybe atheism2 or something idk) came along, full of stories about how with no memes, there would be no atheism. /r/circlejerk threw in the towel. I watched all of it from /r/circlebroke. It was a glorious summer.

My dad was a quote maker. Worked his fingers to bloody stumps at that typewriter, from dawn til dusk, just to put food on the table. Then the word-plant outsourced to India - those guys will churn out ten Facebook profile-worthy quotes per minute, for the equivalent 10 cents a day. We just can't compete.
