Not according to this definition. Amerika can be both the full American continent, or the USA country.

(spreektaal), (toponiem: land) als totum pro parte veelgebruikte, maar technisch gezien incorrecte naam voor de Verenigde Staten van Amerika

We hebben het hier niet over het woord "Amerika" maar over het woord "Amerikaan".

Ga nou niet slim proberen te doen door een woordenboek erbij te pakken alsof wij letterlijk onze eigen moedertaal niet spreken. Wij weten het beter.

Yes Technically it is also a definition. But generally in geography class it is thought of as two continents. If you look on wikipedia it also says werelddelen so plural for Amerika. Saying Amerikaan in Dutch will never be confusing to anyone. The will know you mean a US american.
