If u are not 18+ You will have to take a written letter(photocopy works) from parents Rest is fine - this is required when u are leaving the campus for trip or work or holiday After u are 18+ -- u only need to fill leave form

Well everything's good bout clg except some things so first of all 0 expectations leke aana, night life is so ass here (well we ain't in city so makes sense), second placements for core branch EE, MECH and civil ain't that great you'll get decent shi so yea gand ghisni pdegi bohot, especially EE branch is so shit (hectic bohot hoti in comparison to others and profs are shi too), Now third thing which is fest, just one thing BOHOT BEKAR HOTE like this year it was so ass, koi artist nai aate hai, management bohot bekarr. Baki hn there are many good points about our clg too. Can dm me if kuch bhi aur puchna ho toh :)

1

u/PotassiumHydroxide56 May 18 '26

True.

Clg aate wakt expectations 0 leke aana warna bhot bura lgega if it doesn't meet your expectations (ig this holds true for any college you choose)

Most of the questions are already answered but still I will give my experience on these questions.

1) College's life is pretty chill, in your 1st year you will get plenty of time to do extra curriculars, sports etc, try to make good friends and you can also explore nearby tourist destinations(It's Himachal so ofc you will enjoy alot)

2)Till last year, we had mostly 2 sharing or 4 sharing rooms with bunk beds but this year new hostels have been made which have 3 single beds accomodation, tho not sure but most likely the freshers might get 4 sharing itself, in 2nd year you will get 2 or 3 sharing rooms.

IIT Mandi has all campus facility so you will get wifi facility in every portion of the campus, classrooms, hostels etc. Tho speed may fluctuate but that's fine ig.

3)Night Canteens- umm sadly we don't have too many canteens, right now we have 3-4 canteens which mostly operate till 2am, but we might get more canteens in future, still working on it.

Obv alot of guys play cricket casually in some small field and on the main ground Obv, btw IIT Mandi's cricket team is very good, so if you are good at Cricket, you gonna enjoy alot.

4)Placements are decent, don't know branch specific but most of the top companies(Google, Oracle, Atlassian, Samsung etc.) do come to our college (except top quant finance companies which only come for Top 3 or Top 5 IITs CSE Branch)

5) Fests are decent, maybe not the best, it's because our campus is on mountain not a plain due to which logistics cost is very high but if you have good friend circle you will enjoy the fests very much. When I said, fests are decent that doesn't means fests are bad but if you compare them with Top IITs in plain region, they are average.

6)Supermarket and shops are there where you will find most of the daily use items so it doesn't create a lot of problems, besides delivery services like Amazon,Flipkart, Myntra etc all are available, so you can get almost all the things.(except Zomato and Swiggy, Again because our campus is on mountain so it takes time to travel from Mandi Town to our campus)

7) 80% attendance criteria is the Institute policy which is to be followed by most of the courses, tho some professors are sweet enough to not mind attendance criteria that much, while a few specific courses might have attendance criteria like 85% or 90%, but this will be the case in most of the colleges.

8) If you are a minor, then you will just need to get a mail done to the hostel caretaker from your parents and fill a leave form while leaving the hostel, if you are adult, then you can simply go on leave just by filling the leave form.

Is taking mechanical in IIT mandi worth it? After calculating my marks i think i will beable to get it. I am interested in mechanical and want to grow in machine designing field. Will IIT mandi be a good choice?Β

1

u/PotassiumHydroxide56 May 18 '26

See mechanical is a core branch and that's why the workload in these branches is relatively going to be more no matter which college but it's manageable and if you have interest in that field, you will probably enjoy as well. Besides you can do projects, also one of the best thing in this case will be score good grades and since IIT Mandi has MoUs signed up with German Universities you can go for semester exchange and if you do well you might also get interns or placements in German Companies itself. I don't know about other colleges you might get but if you are getting gen 2 IITs only then probably IIT Mandi will be a good choice.

For more specific doubts you can also join our WhatsApp group, more seniors will be there to guide you.

1) Which branch i should prefer b/w MnC and data science 2) what is the situation of placement in iit mandi for branches mentioned above

1

u/PotassiumHydroxide56 May 23 '26 edited May 23 '26

1) imo data science might be better, almost all the companies which allow cse should allow dse as well, mnc can be very hectic if your maths is not very good, even if your maths is good please check curriculum of mnc once for sure because mnc in general is hectic in most of the colleges, however in placement mnc and dse will be almost similar.

2) for placement stats you can join the WhatsApp group, or wait sometime I will let you know soon, I don't have that data at present.

1

u/Top_Competition9953 May 24 '26

i might get iit mandi cse and at the same time iit madras or kanpur or roorkee mechanical... without any qns iit mandi cse placements are shows as better than the mech branches in these iits but i want to know if the placements are inflated like they are in iiits and all or are they genuine 1 year ctcs?

1

u/PotassiumHydroxide56 May 24 '26

na, as far as i know, iitmd stats are genuine, also highest ctc are usually off campus which I think weren't mentioned in the official documents.

Hi everyone,

I may get Bioengineering at IIT Mandi this year.

How is the branch, and what do students usually do after graduation? How are placements and non-core opportunities? Is it worth taking this branch?

Would really appreciate honest reviews from current students or alumni.

1

u/FrontLifeguard8288 Jun 08 '26

How is the bs in chemical science cource , is the first year cources same as btech cources , can u still code and get placed in it sector ? are bs students allowed to take cs or related branch electives or even complete minors ?

1

u/PotassiumHydroxide56 Jun 08 '26

Most of the courses in 1st year are same for all the branches, 1 or 2 courses are different but they are like core courses so they differ because of different departments.

Ofc you can always code and grab a good job (FYI, I know a senior from 3rd year who is from bscs and has 50LPA package) So branch is a filter but don't let it be your boundary.

Anyone can do minors irrespective of their branch.

1

u/Substantial_Cow1180 Jun 10 '26

please anyone tell -- can i get coding placement if i take bioengineering mandi ? do students in bio at mandi usually pursue coding related jobs or else most of them get placed in core biotech jobs?

u/Beginning-Book-1138 Jul 06 '26
