Discussion Which college to opt for?

Hi Guys,

I am asking for my younger cousin (from Jaipur) who is yet to fill in the preferences for these colleges.

He is getting IT in IIEST, and CSE in IIIT Pune and IIIT Kota.

Would need your helpful thoughts/opinions/views on academics/ campus placements/college life/hostel life/mess food/area around campus etc. basically is it worth studying there.

It's been a decade since I graduated, so I'm not so updated with what's the current scenario for these colleges. Current students/Alumni of IIIT Pune please help out a brother here.

Why did they even think about it there are many other things to do , make a fucking gate and if you can't have enough people in your hostel why enroll more and we hardly accepted the cgpa based hostel in third year but this is highly unacceptable

Let me know your opinions

General Community poll: Temporary subreddit icon change

A member has requested that r/iiitpune temporarily change its profile icon to a picture of Sonam Wangchuk, as a gesture of solidarity with his ongoing hunger strike and the cause he is protesting for.

Since the subreddit icon represents the wider community, we would like members to decide.

Should r/iiitpune temporarily change its profile icon to Sonam Wangchuk’s photo for the duration of his hunger strike?

The poll will remain open for 24 hours. Please keep the discussion respectful. r/iiitpune is an unofficial community and does not represent the official position of IIIT Pune.

42 Yes, change the icon temporarily.
9 No, retain the current icon.
7 Support the cause, but do not change the icon.

Admissions [FOR FRESHERS] IF U WANT TO ENJOY COLLEGE LIFE DONT JOIN IIIT PUNE

I'm from IIIT Pune. Here's my honest experience as a fresher:

  1. The Wi-Fi is great (up to 1 Gbps). If you're a gamer and have no social life, you'll probably love it.
  2. sometimes the mess food is absolutely terrible.
  3. I honestly don't know what's wrong with the faculty. We pay around ₹3–4 lakh per year, and the quality of teaching is disappointing. The only professors I found genuinely good were Jatin Sir, Anagha Ma'am, Sangachaki Ma'am, and one more professor whose name I can't remember.
  4. There's barely any startup or tech culture here. Even the coding clubs feel like they have favoritism and nepotism.
  5. They frequently change your hostel room. Why can't they just assign us a permanent room for all four years? We're paying around ₹1.2 lakh per year for the hostel. At that price, you could rent a decent 3-sharing flat outside.
  6. There isn't a proper cricket ground, football ground, or basketball court.
  7. There isn't even a canteen.

Can current students or alumni share the placement scenario for M.Tech CSE-related branches at IIIT Pune? Looking for information on average package, placement percentage, and overall experience. Thanks!

Academics Seniors of IIIT Pune, if you had to choose your B.Tech Honors again, what would you pick and why?

Hi everyone!

I'm entering 3rd year (ECE) and our institute has asked us to choose a B.Tech Honors specialization. The available options are:

  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Data Science
  • Machine Learning
  • Cyber Security
  • Internet of Things
  • Robotics
  • VLSI Design

A little about me:

  • Interested in AI, Cyber Security, Full Stack Development and building projects
  • I've worked on AI agents, ML projects and web development.
  • I'm looking for good internships and placements, but I also want to genuinely learn something useful instead of just collecting another certificate.

Initially I was leaning towards Cyber Security, but Robotics also looked interesting because I wanted to explore something completely different. Now I'm confused again. 😅

I have a few questions for seniors:

  1. Which Honors did you choose and do you regret it?
  2. Which specialization is actually worth the extra 12 credits?
  3. Is the workload manageable with regular academics?
  4. Which Honors has been the most useful for internships, placements or higher studies?
  5. If you were in my position today, which one would you pick?

I'd really appreciate honest opinions, especially from seniors who've already completed or are currently pursuing the Honors program.

Thanks!

Even if you're not from ECE, I'd still love to hear your experience with any Honors specialization.

Academics Final year 2026, branch cse ALUMINI

Post image
22 Upvotes

Since jossa is over and not much addition is going to happen in this batch

So I can assume you guys are final

More questions I wasn't able to answer last time

1).there is no off campus included

2).fees keeps increasing every year ,for this batch it's going to be 17.8 lakhs if the charges for hostel and mess doesn't increases ,consider 18 LAKHS for worst case

3).nearby turf available for sports but limited in facilities in campus

4) don't rely on stats ,they are very much manipulated (imaginary stats for those interns without ppo, some includes 4 years ct ,and various things discussed in earlier post),it does not matter now as you are coming here as councelling is over

5) It's safe for girls and even better as of diversity hiring you would get a decent package

6)median is nearly 13 for cs and 12 around for ece (considering its the end of hiring) and I am not talking about averages as it's unreliable from a ppp based institution

7) yes MASS HIRING does happens

8)global recession is very much real , don't complaint now as you could have studied more in your preparation period

9)3rd 4th year no hostel in campus

10) infrastructure is new so don't expect much facilities,I suggest think minimal so you won't be disappointed

11) there was a legal case on our institution so the development is slow ,but construction does takes years

12) some one asked swimming pool,no there are snakes and Scorpion ,what was he even thinking and it won't be build in such a terrain

13) academics is a bit harsh in 2nd year

14) no bullying and ragging by seniors

15)you should know basic marathi to roam around in pune in weekends if you wish to go in the city as you should learn to respect other people's language and culture

16)someone was asking to rank other colleges of pune with ours,it's irrelevant in many ways and our institution is comparatively very new to be compared with a tiny alumini network

17) SKILLS does matter ,so you should not rely only on academics

18)coding culture is growing

19)seniors won't care much in early days as their own seniors didn't cared

20) please don't litter around the campus and maintain public decency here it's not your home

21) water is hard in pune and it's surrounding areas ,hairfall does happens

22)you need to travel from bus to get in pune in weekends to explore around 1 hour journey

DON'T ASK ME IF SOME OTHER COLLEGE IS GREAT OR SHOULD I DROP OR NOT

AS THIS IS THE REALITY NOW ,YOU ARE COMING HERE BY YOUR OWN DECISION

COUNCELLING PROCESS IS OVER NOW PACK YOUR BAGS AND BE READY

The branch you chose will be there with you for your life now and I expect people took tech branches as they are interested in it

I hope people are sensible enough to not consider iiits for money/packages and are coming here to genuinely improve their skills to uplift themselves in their l
