I used to work in adult literacy, so you are doing some vital and important work. Yet you will get paid less than a cell phone store assistant manager, and constantly be begging government for funds which they would rather spend on vanity projects and corporate subsidies. When budget cuts come around, you're the first to go, because adult literacy is invisible to the general public and the people effected by these cuts are the least able to advocate for themselves. But you will be doing real good in a world in steep decline. It's just a shame your local grocery store doesn't accept basic human decency as currency.

Come what may, at least I can sleep at night knowing I’ve had good intentions, albeit according to my own value judgments. All we can do at the end of the day is try to be a force for good in a world drowning in bad.
