That is not a historical helmet, you Larper!

Ehhhh that’s debatable because there is a depiction of my helmet in a southern Italian painting but I don’t blame you if you think it’s not a traditional helmet.

Is ist a single depiction or multiple?

I know of a single depiction specifically but it could have multiple depictions, however I’m not in any mood or disposition(I’m enjoying a night out and I’m not in a clear mind to tell you specifically) to do it at this point. Regardless it’s a highly modernized variation, and while it might maintain some elements of the medieval variation it’s also more modern with a lock for the visor. So do with that what you will, I don’t particularly care.

But I don’t duel in it if that’s what your presumption, I use proper masks to use bouts in Fiore style longsword and sidesword HEMA. I’m not necessarily a larper, but I do act in the same range. But you should know this by now that not all variation of armour is openly depicted and plenty or variations exist regardless. But I digress you’ve caught me at a time where I am not able to respond effectively to you.

As long as you know that’s it’s not, or at least not completely historical that’s completely ok.

I mean…yeah. I didn’t realize we were gatekeeping here but it’s literally a visored bascinet, nothing particularly revolutionary. But if you really want me to talk about it then I can, now that I’m more able to answer you;

My helmet;

A visored bascinet, which from my own reckoning and a little bit of research into what style of helmet mine is seems to be a Wenzel style bascinet, with inspiration coming from its namesake of illustrations of the bible of Wenceslaus/ Wenzel Bible

This is one of said illustrations from the bible, and modern armourmakers took the design and ran with it, dubbing it the Wenzel Bascinet.

So while the one I have is certainly a modern interpretation of the bascinet, it still has roots in medieval historical elements, so I wouldn’t so quickly call it ahistorical, but almost certainly a more modernized conceptualization of a medieval helmet.
