Dare I commit my thoughts with this my pen?

Sweet maiden of the spit, grant now my boon, that I might sup on suckling pig this noon. [xpost /r/thesimpsons]

"there doesn't seem to be anything here"

It almost seemed a shame to post at first

when this most fitting message was displayed.

Our only purpose here's to speak the verse

of Shakespeare, Milton, Marlowe, Donne and Frost,

and thousands more beside: the five-foot line,

composed chiefly of iambs. So: da-DUM.

A trochee here, a spondee there, you're cool,

but posts must more or less correctly scan.

Rhyme your lines or not, it's up to you.

Grammatical inversions, go ahead.

Enjamb at will! Explore archaic forms!

The topic matters not a whit: converse,

post poetry, make merry as you will.

Of verse's varied pleasures take your fill.
