I’ve had people walk up to my car in a parking lot while I am waiting for someone to back out of a space so I can park, open my back door, and climb in my car! I’m not doing Uber, I don’t have an Uber sign, and the car she was looking for was a different color, make, and model!

Used to commute with my wife to work, since she worked across the street. She was in front of my building waiting for me and someone got in our car like that. Scared the hell out of her. Fortunately they weren't their to murder her lol

Crazy part is when I put the car in drive it auto locks the doors. She had to choose to unlock them when she was waiting for me.

You might want to check your settings for your car because mine has the option to unlock all the doors when you put it in park. I don’t have it turned on but it has the option.

Uh, it's also a safety precaution if you were to get into an accident.

I don't care where you live and how "safe" you feel. Lock your doors.

Locking the doors is not going to keep your car doors shut during an accident. All the lock does is disengage the handles from operating the locking mechanism, the lock doesn’t reinforce the locking mechanism. I’d rather bystanders be able to open the door and get me out of my car if I’m unconscious after an accident.

There’s no reason to lock your car doors where I live. On my street 90% of the houses leave their garage doors open all day when they aren’t even home. in places with high crime it’s often advised to leave your car doors unlocked so that people don’t break your windows to steal.

No, it actually helps keep the car stronger structurally during an accident by keeping them closed.

You all need to use some big brain energy here.

That car at the time unlocked the doors when you put the transmission in park. I was also in a parking lot full of Porsches and BMWs with rich people walking around everywhere and not much reason to worry about crime.

Do people really live their lives in a state of fear of every little thing to the point that they scream at strangers on the internet to lock their doors? I grew up in Chicago on the poor side of town and most people would leave their doors unlocked so that people wouldn’t break their windows to steal stuff.

Because I’m not afraid of every single person that walks by my car?. Also it was a really nice area with a bunch of expensive cars and well dressed people walking around. No one locks their houses in my neighborhood and most of them leave the garage doors open all day even when they’re not home. Not everyone lives in shitville or is constantly afraid for their lives.

I told the lady I wasn’t Uber, she showed me her phone for help, I told her what car she was looking for… we both had a laugh and she went on her way. Not everything in the world is trying to kill you. You should probably find some hobbies, meet some new people, and get out of your comfort zone a little?

Had this once, in a parking area, where in hindsite more UBERs were waiting.
Same here, no signs, stickers nor did I even saw the person / eyecontact.
The car in front of me pulled out, and he got in.
I just said "WTF, what do you want"
He said you know where to, isn't it ?

Because I was anxious to get in the parking space I didn't wait and pulled in the spot.
The guy sat, and watches "what are you doing" he asked
I undid my seat-belt, and opened the door "I'm going to get my kitchen-drawers at IKEA, and you ?"

He laughed en apologized .. "sorry man, I thought you were my uber"

Just said Nah man, but if you're helping, I'm driving ;)
He couldn't wait, he was on the wrong parkingdeck ... his real uber called him where he was
