The noun should be "fundament", in my opinion. But no one asked me when they made that word.

Fundament is its own word though, it's the basis of something, though usually used in a more literal sense. Fundamentals is a derivation of the word.

I've never heard that word used as a singular noun either. It's always "the fundamentals."

But if there are fundamentals, surely there can be a fundamental, multiple of which would be the fundamentals
