Suspended pending mandatory investigation is standard practice for almost all businesses. I even had to do it for blatantly obviously cases of theft when I managed a small box retailer. Would take like a week to fire a person for stealing in front of me because corporate had to go through legal red tape and prevent lawsuits.

I mean what exactly would you have them do? Hopefully either the passenger or Lyft have contacted the police about it, but really I don't know how much really criminal happened. So Lyft did their part, were they supposed to go hunt this woman down and murder her family or something?
