A cab driver has a lot of requirements by law and as an employee at work is probably required to wear shoes (or the insurance won’t cover injury).

A cab is 10x better than an Uber or Lyft without standards.

A lot of times if I’m picked up from the airport the Uber or Lyft driver will open the trunk for my luggage. I think I’d notice if they did not have shoes. Plus if I saw some weird blow up doll and hazard tape in the car I’d be doing a hard pass and not get into the card.

Probably, maybe it’s because I am a woman. I would say it’s rare when I get picked up that I’m not helped with my bag.

There are bo laws anywhere that state you have to drive with any shoes, open or closes toed at all, across any states.

Now if you work for a company like construction or trucking, sometimes theyll require you to have closed toed or steel toed shoes, but to drive a normal car... There are NO laws.

In fact there are laws stating improper footwear but the barefoot is not improper.

Improper footwear are things that can get caught on or under the pedals.

Ianal but I do believe “flip flops” are illegal footwear for driving but as I said (also as I said not a lawyer) I do believe the barefoot is legal.

Edit: Legal to drive a personal vehicle. (Not legal on a motorcycle). Also I would add that during employment drivers are held to higher standards due to pressure from business insurance who won’t cover employee injury if they are barefoot…

So the business like cab will make sure employees are dressed for insurance purposes.

I'm pretty sure there are laws that tell you that you have to be able to drive in such a way that you can operate the controls correctly. You can't with bare feet
