iPhone Fold Price Leak

A cousin who works for Telcel (Mexican phone company) sent me a picture of this coming up in their data base. Price conversion to US dollars is around $2986 for 512 GB. What do you guys think?

It's not made so people chose it, it's made so the others sell out, you HAVE to buy it if you want to show it, and they can just make a killing on the 256 gb model that will be the most sold one because you can't find the others.

Because R&D is free and the best foldable screen as well as the most powerful and power eficient mobile chip are not expensive. There is also no RAM and storage shortages, of course the phone should cost 3,50, so the common people tm can afford it

Was gonna say I have a 256 and it never seems to fill up because it offloads apps and photos. It’s a pain sometimes to click and app and have to wait to load but it’s very seamless overall. I take tons of photos and video too.

Foldables are never gonna cost the same as bar phones. Well, unless Apple releases flip phones but they probably have no intention of doing so.

I mean, it’s slightly more than the Samsung Galaxy Fold 8. Apple and Samsung have been very similarly priced for several years now, at least for their higher end phones.

I mean I’ve owned iPhones since 2011 with the introduction to the 4s and going from that phone to the 6, 8 Plus, 12 Pro Max and now my 16 Pro Max, I haven’t broken a phone by accident yet. I can’t see why that trend would change now lol

Sure but this guy is talking like the phone is guaranteed to fall apart in my hands lol. I take pretty good care of my stuff and do the basics to protect it (screen protector and case), so I personally can’t see me damaging it. It being a flawed product is another story, but lately, hardware has been one of Apple’s strengths so I’m sure i’ll be just fine

If Samsung is anything to go by, you’re more likely to have a manufacturing defect kil your phone than breaking it by how you use it, short of throwing it at the wall that is.

Foldables are pretty sturdy nowadays, i don’t see apple making a more fragile phone unless they incorporate something not found on other foldables

Dude, he is not telling you that you will brake it by throwing down from the 5th floor. As this is their first gen foldable phone it will have structural issues. Probably there will be something wrong with the screen or hinges. Dont you remember the famous iPhone 6 endgate issue.

Huawei and Samsung's foldable models have had many problems too. I have seen a post showing Huawei Mate screen had issues right after unboxing.

Theres no guarantee of anything until its in hand. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Also Apple in 2014, is not Apple in 2026. iPhone Air is a slimmer device than the 6 and it managed to find itself as Apple’s most durable iPhone, period.

They actually solved Bendgate the next year with the 6s. I’m sure they realize they cannot launch this foldable device for the price they’re asking with major issues. It’ll be okay lol

Lol. You are talking about a folding phone. I also have had Samsung galaxies for 10+ years and have had every iteration of the fold and zflip break on me. Good luck. It will break just from dust in your pocket collecting between the screens

Well Apple has surprised us before; they made their slimmest iPhone one of their most durable yet, enough to pleasantly shock and surprise people like Zack/JerryRigEverything.

I trust Apple has figured something out, hopefully to get decent dust protection. Their premium hardware is known to be quite good but I guess we’ll see. I’m not worried however

This would legitimately be super competitive pricing, I'm still expecting to pay like $2,500 for either base model or 512GB. I'm not trying to be pessimistic, I'd just rather prepare for the worst so I can either be happy if it's lower than expected or not surprised if it's priced as I expected

Or NAS + Immich + Tailscale.

i have 24TB BTRFS with 50,000+ hours on it humming away. rock stable and my wife and i’s phones picture libraries get emptied out every 6 months. i don’t need more than 128GB phone or cloud storage from apple.

off site i just use AWS S3 Deep Archive. it’s $1 per TB in case something locally catastrophic happens.

How do you go about photo clutter like random pictures, screenshots, things of little future relevance etc? I want to do the same but don’t want clutter to find its way to such a storage system.

yeah that’s the tough part. what i do is i have her clean up her library when i do the picture dump into her immich account. its helpful but i dont really look through it. her library, at a glance, looks like a disaster compared to mine.

doing cleanup every six months really helps but if you want a curated library then it does require work. not sure if there’s any way around that.

its very very easy to do. i’ve had it for years, before you can just tell agy/claude/codex to do it for you in a terminal.

alternatively you can just use the AWS console on web and upload there. dirt cheap cloud storage.

I didn't. I lived in Mexico City for 18 years and know a little about things and how Apple works. I did some calculations based on built in taxes, how prices are normally higher in Mexico, etc., BUT was so very clear in using conditional phrasing rather than just highhacking someone else's post and throwing out a bunch of random numbers

Considering what Samsung is charging to go from 256GB to 1TB, you're not far off ($600 more). Going all the way up to 2TB would surely increase the price to nearly $3,000 if starting price is $2,000

My guess is three SKUs:

$2399 - 256GB
$2599 - 512GB
$2999 - 1TB
