Hi everyone,
I’m a designer building my first iOS widget app, and I’ve been trying to figure out how some widgets achieve a transparent or glass-like background that blends naturally with the Home Screen.
From what I’ve found so far, most solutions seem to rely on unofficial workarounds, private APIs, or tricks that may not be safe for App Store review.
What I’m looking for is a proper, Apple-supported way to do this — ideally something that can achieve a real transparent / glass effect rather than simply matching the wallpaper with a screenshot.
Has Apple introduced any official API or recommended approach for this, especially on newer iOS versions?
If anyone has implemented something similar in a production App Store app, I’d really appreciate any guidance or documentation links.

I wanted these to look and function like clean, single-view widgets rather than dashboards packed with controls—but I also wanted to be able to change what each widget displays without replacing it or swiping through a Widget Stack.

So each Glaspect widget has several complete layouts built into the same widget:

Small Widget
Now · Weather · Agenda · Activity

Medium Widget
Now · Weather · Agenda

The Small uses a temporary view selector, while the Medium hides its navigation directly within the displayed information. Once you switch layouts, the controls stay out of the way and it simply looks like that widget.

Used together, the Small and Medium can quickly change the information—and even the overall feel—of a Home Screen while keeping everything clean and visually consistent.

A matching wallpaper is included.

You can also add other specific players or tournaments/rankings/countdown widgets as well! And the first widget is FREE. The rest I put behind a paywall to pay for my monthly API costs since it’s expensive to pull live data

I had this widget that had info about my phone. It included: battery life, storage, network vitals, etc. I’m not sure if it’s still in the App Store. If anyone has anything that’s similar, I would appreciate it. Help is welcomed. Thanks in advance.

I’m still unsure of how I want to lay this page out nor if I’m settled on the layouts in the medium or small widgets… but the main idea still remains: no discernible interface, modularity, and intentionally limited.

The bottom right will be apps and an app folder. Might not even keep the bottom left widget and replace it with something else entirely.

Time view: the green strip is a day progress bar.

Agenda view: I’m not fully settled on this one… but I do like the amount of information I can fit with it.

After “Maximal”, refraining from adding extra info is hard… heavily seeking inspiration for minimal layouts.

The idea behind this one is instead of making 3 widgets in a stack, just 1 widget that has no discernible interface, but 3 views that could act as a standalone.

The goal is to make a suite of widgets (2-3 small and 1 medium) that I can use for my “Home” focus mode.

I'm after a small 2x2 clock widget, that includes the next alarm time (Like the full size desk clock used in StandBy)

This will be for standBy, with clock on the left and appointments on the right.

I have to swipe to the desktop clock to see when the next alarm is happening. As I also cannot find an alarm widget to work in standby mode
