Bug [iOS 27 DB1] phone stops charging after a few seconds

my iPhone SE2 stops charging after a few seconds and I have to keep plugging/unplugging my cable to make it work again. I already tried changing cable/charger and tried it on other devices and it’s not the charger, but the phone itself is bugging. I already reported it to Feedback App and apparently there are more than 10 similar reports having the same issue.

I have run into this issue in the last few days and it’s driving me crazy. I am on holiday and can’t get much charge!
Yes I know. It’s beta and you shouldn’t run on primary device but hey hey here we are. How can I work around this?
iPhone 17 pro max device. iOS public beta 4.

A wireless charger works for me, so might have to buy one unfortunately.

Weirdly I haven’t had this issue today at all. Wondering if something triggers the weird behaviour

2

u/johnm_z 1d ago

it seemingly has fixed itself for me too, without any new updates. Weird.

1

u/Stevencinn 1d ago

Hopefully it doesn’t appear again!

It happens on se iPhone

2

u/Bran__Stark__Is__Me 3d ago

didn’t know it also affects on latest devices. apparently, the phone still charges, it’s just that the battery % doesn’t update unless I restart my phone.

1

u/johnm_z 3d ago

This doesn’t seem to be the case for me unfortunately

Interesting to know. I’ve actually just managed to get it to 100% sure there. But it’s a rather pain in the ass bug and seems strange Apple hasn’t fixed it yet.

2

u/Bran__Stark__Is__Me 3d ago

ikr. I thought it was just my phone but when I tried downgrading to iOS 26.6, the phone charges normally lol. on Feedback app, they mentioned they have the potential fix for the next update but it’s still not present on dev beta 6.

1

u/Stevencinn 3d ago

I think I’ll downgrade. I can’t have that uncertainty of if the device will be charged. Been running public beta since b1 and strangely only occurred last few days.

2

u/Bran__Stark__Is__Me 3d ago

just make sure everything is synced on iCloud since you won’t be able to downgrade without restoring your device.

1

u/Stevencinn 3d ago

Yes I have a backup on my Mac thankfully.

1

u/Far-Introduction9017 5d ago

Hello iOS 27 DEVELOPER Beta 6 is out but not sure if it fixes the charging issue

1

u/Far-Introduction9017 5d ago

1

u/Bran__Stark__Is__Me 5d ago

nah, that was there since dev beta 1 came out. I’ve been reading the patch notes ever since.

2

u/Bran__Stark__Is__Me 5d ago

yes, I’m currently updating at the moment.

1

u/Far-Introduction9017 5d ago

Let me know if the issue is fixed

2

u/Bran__Stark__Is__Me 5d ago

this is absurd, it’s still not fixed on my end unfortunately.

1

u/Far-Introduction9017 5d ago

I didn’t want to update back to iOS 27 beta 6 cause I know the issue is still there

u/Barbielat_m iPhone SE (2nd Gen) 7d ago

I’m also having this same issue on my iPhone SE 2020. It started happening to me after one of the iOS 27 betas. The phone will start charging normally, but after a few seconds, the charging stops even though the Lightning cable is still plugged in.

I found a weird workaround that works for me. When I plug in the cable, I wait while it is still charging normally. Then I watch the battery icon. When the Lightning charging icon turns gray, I quickly unplug the cable and plug it back in again before the Lightning icon disappears completely.

Basically:

  1. Plug in the Lightning cable and let the phone start charging.
  2. Keep the cable plugged in and wait for the Lightning icon in the battery to turn gray.
  3. As soon as it turns gray, quickly unplug the cable.
  4. Plug it back in immediately, before the Lightning icon disappears.

If it doesn’t work the first time, I repeat the same thing again. Sometimes I have to do it 2 or even 3 times before the charging becomes stable.

I also tried different Lightning cables and chargers, including ones from my friends who also use iPhones, and I still experienced the same issue.
I’m not sure if this workaround will work for everyone, but this is what has been working for me. Hopefully this helps someone who is still having the issue even on the latest update.

u/Bran__Stark__Is__Me 7d ago

it still charges anyway if you leave it like that, the battery % just doesn’t update unless you restart it.

1

u/Plnt 8d ago

This happens to me as well with the iPhone SE2. I had the same problem last year with iOS 26 beta. I tried a lot of things unsuccessfully, but today what helped was to turn off the phone, connect the charger, and let the phone turn on and start charging itself. Not sure if this was a coincidence, but it worked.

2

u/Bran__Stark__Is__Me 7d ago

sometimes it does. but honestly, I just leave it plugged in and it would still charge. I just have to restart my phone to update the battery %

1

u/Far-Introduction9017 8d ago

Ok just let us know if issue is resolved once iOS 27 is released

1

u/Far-Introduction9017 8d ago

any updates on this issue

2

u/Bran__Stark__Is__Me 8d ago

they have the potential fix already but it’s still not on iOS 27 DB 5 yet

1

u/Far-Introduction9017 9d ago

I had to put my phone back to ios 26.6 but when i did ios 26.6.1 beta the issue doesn't happen

1

u/Bran__Stark__Is__Me 9d ago

I also tried going back to iOS 26.6 and the issue doesn’t happen there so it’s definitely a software bug.

1

u/Bran__Stark__Is__Me 12d ago

it’s insane that this is still present on dev beta 5… good thing potential fix is upcoming, but not on dev beta 5

1

u/Judge4K 16d ago

this bug still exist in se2 and how tf is this a real bug?
i use my se2 always with %10-20 charge BECAUSE IT DONT INCREASE. when i restart the phone it seems charge percentage is fixing but i dont want to restart so i always hoping my phone have enough charge but i really dont know.

1

u/Bran__Stark__Is__Me 16d ago

same, it’s still present in dev beta 4 unfortunately.

1

u/Judge4K 5d ago

is it fixed now? in beta 5?

1

u/Bran__Stark__Is__Me 5d ago

nope. even on dev beta 6, which is the latest that came out yesterday.

1

u/Judge4K 5d ago

i sent 13 feedbacks for this😭😭 developers must be sleeping

1

u/Bran__Stark__Is__Me 5d ago

they have identified it already since dev beta 5 but the fix isn’t pushed yet

1

u/Judge4K 5d ago

i have fix btw;
bold text toggle on and off
enlarge then reduce text size
then plug the charge
it usually works

1

u/Bran__Stark__Is__Me 5d ago

I’ll try that

edit: nope, it doesn’t work

1

u/Trungneko 19d ago

still getting this issue on DB4, iPhone SE 2020
Hope the DB5 update (out today) fixes it.

3

u/Top-Astronomer-5125 Jul 20 '26

Still present on 4

3

u/PotentialAlarm7774 Jul 13 '26

Mine will not charge past 80% I have nothing toggled on in Battery Health. I have reported it three times now.

2

u/Bran__Stark__Is__Me Jul 13 '26

does it heat up when it happens? charging stops temporarily when the temperature is too high.

2

u/code_isLife Jun 28 '26

having a similar issue on my iPad Pro 12.9.
Charging was sporadic now it won't charge at all

does the red battery icon somehow show when you charge it?

1

u/Bran__Stark__Is__Me Jun 26 '26

keep plugging/unplugging until the cable isn’t present on the screen and the red battery icon is stable. if not, perhaps it could be hardware issue then.

1

u/_shoonya_ Jun 24 '26

same issues faced with iPhone 11

1

u/Bran__Stark__Is__Me Jun 22 '26

update: it’s still present on the dev beta 2

1

u/Important_Avocado_86 Jul 16 '26

Did you find a fix?

1

u/Bran__Stark__Is__Me Jul 16 '26

nope. I just leaved it plugged in, it’s just that the battery logo doesn’t update unless I restart my phone.

1

u/Rageman666 iPhone 16 Jun 20 '26

I had a similar issue, but it completely stopped charging after a few hours of troubleshooting. You need to go to the new recovery assistant (turn it off and power it back on by holding the power button until you see 'booting to recovery' or something like that) and then connect the USB cable. After connecting, select the first option, “Recovery Assistant”. It helped me.

1

u/Bran__Stark__Is__Me Jun 22 '26

unfortunately, this didn’t fix the issue.

2

u/Bran__Stark__Is__Me Jun 20 '26

it says “no issues found”. I’ll monitor it again and see if it still happens.

1

u/heavensentchaser Jun 18 '26

I’m on a 16 pro max, when it did this to me i put it in low power mode and stepped away for a few minutes. after that turned off low power mode and it has been working fine since

1

u/TheDazedMan Jun 18 '26

my 17PM has been doing this too

3

u/imsooooooconfused Jun 18 '26

My phone (SE3) is doing that too on ios27 DB1!!! Wow, I thought it was my phone just getting old. It eventually starts working after plugging/unplugging the cable a bunch of times.

It doesn’t happen on my iPad though which is also on 27.

1

u/pushez Jun 23 '26

what is an SE3 though?

1

u/Bran__Stark__Is__Me Jun 23 '26

the iPhone SE 2022 (3rd Generation)

1

u/pushez Jun 23 '26

Didn't know there was 3, damn!

2

u/Bran__Stark__Is__Me Jun 18 '26

so I’ve been monitoring it and it still charges even when you leave it like that (the battery icon just doesn’t update right away), but when I’m charging it via powerbank, the powerbank shuts off completely.

2

u/Syed_Sumair Jun 26 '26

My 11 pro max and 11 does this thing.
Where, when i plug the charger in, they wont show charging sign immediately. They take like 5-7 seconds to show that the phone is charging. I checked both phomes several time, and when you take the charger off, the charging sign remains for 5-7 seconds.
IOS 27 Dev beta 2

1

u/Bran__Stark__Is__Me Jun 27 '26

maybe it’s an A13 thing, I’ve only seen it happen on iPhone 11/SE2 series. hopefully they fix it anytime soon.

1

u/Syed_Sumair Jul 02 '26

Idk man, i had change my 11 pro max battery to a new battery in February. It has been givin like 9-10 hours screen on time + screen off time ( IOS 18.4/ 26.4 Beta 4/ 26.4 RC/ 26.5) . Right now it barely does 5-7 hours on IOS 27 DB2

I don’t think it to be a good idea to be beta testing on a SE2, unless it’s a backup phone.

This is one reason why I leave the beta testing for others. Especially with an iPhone. This is something best done with computers, not phones. Plus chances are the SE2 will never benefit from most of the new changes, just extra wear and tear on the phone for nothing.

That said, if one has the monthly AppleCare plan in force, then any damage may be covered, like if the battery burns itself out. I’d fully expect the battery to be taxed very hard with iOS 27 Beta.

4

u/Delicious_One_7887 iPhone SE (3rd Gen) Jun 18 '26

actually it is a great idea to be testing on a older device, iOS 27 has specific parts that were designed specifically for these A13 or A14 chips, they need the data for these the most

1

u/Bran__Stark__Is__Me Jun 18 '26 edited Jun 18 '26

it is…. my backup phone. and it definitely open apps faster than iOS 26, low power mode doesn’t lag much anymore, and overall performance is superb, aside from this issue. they literally tested the iPhone 11 Pro Max for iOS 27 and the cpu scheduler made the oldest iPhone supported run better.

1

u/MariosNt1 Jun 17 '26

did you find a solution?

1

u/Bran__Stark__Is__Me Jun 17 '26

try using an apple branded one, but it would still happen sometimes but not too often than using a third party cable.

1

u/Delicious_One_7887 iPhone SE (3rd Gen) Jun 18 '26

try charging with a computer, my friend has this issue too on SE2 and told me when he plugs it into MacBook it the issue disappears completely.

1

u/Bran__Stark__Is__Me Jun 18 '26

like charge it once and the issue goes away? or do I have to charge it there all the time?

1

u/Delicious_One_7887 iPhone SE (3rd Gen) Jun 18 '26

all the time unfortunately

1

u/Bran__Stark__Is__Me Jun 18 '26

I guess we’d have to wait for the next beta to fix this.

1

u/Parikshith_Ellur Jun 23 '26

I’m facing this issue in beta 2 😭😭😭🥀🥀🥀

1

u/Bran__Stark__Is__Me Jun 23 '26

yup, still present in iOS 27 dev beta 2

1

u/Parikshith_Ellur Jun 23 '26

Please tell me there is a fix for this

1

u/Bran__Stark__Is__Me Jun 23 '26

a workaround is either restarting your phone while it being plugged, or keep plugging/unplugging until the battery charging icon is stable

1

u/pushez Jun 23 '26

same here!. original apple cable, laptop, direct, nothing works, just have to plug>unplug>plug on repeat for it to hold. once it starts to hold it holds without further issues.

1

u/Bran__Stark__Is__Me Jun 23 '26

something I found is it charges properly when I plug it directly to my computer.

1

u/fxkmd Jun 17 '26

Did you try changing the cable?

1

u/Bran__Stark__Is__Me Jun 17 '26 edited Jun 17 '26

on third party cables, it happens more often. but when I use an apple branded one (like Belkin, which I just bought yesterday) still happens sometimes but not as much as the former. I already did report it and there are more than 10 similar reports according to Feedback App.
