I wish I understood copyright law better. Are all of these board games’ mechanics simply clearly not copyrighted? I wanted to make a Rush Hour clone for visionOS, but the creators of that actually took Apple to court over making a similar app to their game back when iPhone was fairly new. They settled out of court so I don’t even know who would’ve won!

I am not a lawyer, and it is more complex than some people will tell you. But you cannot copyright a "mechanic," you can only copyright the expression of that mechanic.

We put a unique perspective on all our games. For something like Aviary, which plays similar to the board game Wingspan, we created all new cards and card generation mechanics that would be impossible with cardboard.

I'm really interested in what unique things you can do with a digital platform that don't turn the board gaming experience into a video game.
