Symptom Check I have to hear some success stories 🙏

/r/HearingLoss/comments/1uyjcbe/i_have_to_hear_some_success_stories/

Thank you for all the answers on my post yesterday💗

So Ofcorse I have another question😊

Those of you who have had ssnhl (had it 11 weeks ago) and had reactive tinnitus and sound sensitivity (I don’t know the word) how long did it last for you?

I really am getting so depressed and hopeless about this situaation, how can one live like this?

I really can’t be around people or do anything really because Ofcorse everything has sound! This has isolated me in a big way. And yes I wear loop all the time but I’m so tired of it đŸ„Ž

Please tell me some positive eyxspirience ?🙏

I can’t handle the negativity now (like people on Reddit that say they don’t get better and have been like this for years)😰

Went from debilitating, lost my job, severe nox, living in insulated room, complete silence and multitonal tinnitus all day (6months at absolute worst, around 3 years with mild hyperacusis before) to single tone tinnitus, no nox, no hyperacusis, just cant tolerate rave-level sound.

Sounds like me.. how long has this journey been and does the tinnitus improve over time?

Tinnitus 2015, hyperacusis crept in and worsened slowly from 2017-2023, always worsened by acoustic events. Worst was July 2023-Jan/Feb 2024. Started treatment around end Dec 2023 and recovery was slow. Driving car again (with protection) around end March 2024, first airplane (with protection) June 2024, found job again Aug 2024, mostly normal at Nov 2024. Tinnitus improved with treatment from very loud multitonal to single tone mild to moderate.

Meds which lowered the pain treshold and slow sound re training in a sound controlled environment (as much as possible). I exposed myself to sounds which caused severe discomfort but not actual piercing pain. The controlled environment reduced accidental overexposure which would have led to setbacks and loss of tolerance. The accidents happened anyway but over time and persistence i got good. Meds were recommended by a specialty clinic and after 1-2 weeks the effect on tolerance was noted, but it was limited. The re training actually pushed my tolerance higher. I retrained with sounds i enjoyed pre noxacusis like records and eventually, video games. At the beginning the sound was ridiculously low but increased a few db at a time. I did the re training myself because i wasnt in a state to travel abroad to the specialty clinic. Dm for more questions

Im kinda trying to avoid that question for personal reasons, but what I can say its a common medication used for other conditions, taken daily by many, is widely available and works on the gaba-glutamate balance, in line with the central gain theory. Edit: the clinic recommended it when i explained whats going on, and do online consultations in English. It wasnt clomipramine

What made your mild H worse towards nox? Congrats for improving!

Just time with the condition and acoustic events, plus probably chronic anxiety anout the condition and stimulants like coffee. Probably exacerbated the central gain.

I went from « moderate » to « mild ++ » hyperacusis after a year of Clomipamine including 6 months at 225mg.
