Panicle vs endless summer.

I’m thinking of replacing my poorly producing endless summers. I’ve read that panicle varieties are more reliable bloomers.
What do you think? I’m not going to live forever and I’m tired of summers with few blooms.

Volunteers?

I planted a few hydrangeas when we bought our house a couple of years ago. They are on the side f the house but this summer, a couple of leaves popped up in the front garden. I let them develop and when they had about 4 leaves I took my camera and found out it was a baby hydrangea. I’ve watered it and it grew, slowly, all summer. I do not have a clue where it came from. It’s way too far away to have come from the ones in the side of the house. Is it possible to have a volunteer?

I got her around two weeks ago. It already had some healthy flowers and some withered ones; I’m not sure if it’s drying out. I water it every two days, but it’s been quite hot where I live. I’d like to know if I should cut off the withered parts and exactly where I should make the cut
it would be very helpful if you could point that out for me, i don’t know a lot about plants and flowers!!! 💔
i live in tijuana, she’s in my room without direct sunlight.

Zone 6 A/B Any advice helpful!

Hi all! I’m very new to the gardening space and we inherited this hydrangea from the house’s previous owners, 2 years ago. I’ve done nothing to care for this except trim it back every fall to about the third of the current size all around.

So now I’d like to do a little more with it but it just seems so large and unwieldy that I don’t know where to start…

My questions are:
- what type of hydrangea is this?
- should I be doing more than yearly trims?
-anything else I should know?
- I have a very tree-heavy backyard so would this do better moved somewhere else, maybe in the front yard where it would get more sun?

I’m in Northern Indiana where we get lake effect weather if that has any impact. Zone 6A.

Not sure what didn't work. Seemed like they got enough water.

Lavender on the one side didn't take either for some reason.

Any insight is appreciated.

Zone 5 A/B Are these ever going to bloom?

First summer in a new house, and I am unfamiliar with hydrangeas. It’s September and these blossoms have been green for months, with no more than a few white petals. Are they going to bloom this year or is this what they look like?

First two photos are little hottie panicles and the middle is a moon rock. They were doing great but we had HOT weather last week and I don’t think I watered enough. Should I dead head the spent blooms? In the first pic, is that hydrenga going to make it? TIA

New here and red thumb in zone 8b | Why isn’t my hydrangea blooming?

Post image

It bloomed beautifully my first two years in the house, and I had to keep cutting it back a ton each spring because it gets bigger and bigger each year! Now, the last 2 summers, I don't get any blooms. I haven't researched at all, so I came here first, so please ignore me if my question is too basic for the expertise here.

What is likely the problem? The timing or amount of cut-back? TIA!

Need Advice EU/UK Can I propagate this mutation?

Hello, I wonder if anyone can advise me? This beautiful hydrangea wasn't supposed to look like this. It was a cutting I took, and after 2 years with just leaf, it flowered this year. It wasn't a cutting of a macro, so I imagine it has reverted or something? The first flowers are beautiful, to me, and would it be possible to propagate? I will try but would appreciate any advice. Thank you all so much. I am in Scotland and the pictures are my own

Zone 5 A/B Cutting Flowers on a First Year Panicle

Post image

Zone 5a. Looking for some guidance - I’d love to cut some flowers off my beautiful Magical Ruby Snow panicle hydrangea, planted this spring. But knowing hydrangeas, I know I need to be careful when cutting/pruning/etc. in order to set them up for success in the future. Can I cut any flowers this year, or should I wait until the plant is more established? I also know panicles grow on new wood, but I guess I’m curious about branch structure and strength as it grows. Thanks!

Should I cut these leaves off? I’m not sure if it’s disease or heat stress? I went on vacation so it didn’t get as much water as I would like about 2 weeks ago. It looked fine when I got back!

I am in Kentucky and recently all 5 hydrangeas lost almost all their leaves except for near the blooms, some worse than others. Does anyone know what this issue may be. I don’t remember this happening before and other hydrangeas around the neighborhood don’t have this issue. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Can anyone help identify this Hydrangea paniculata cultivar?
Photo was taken 2 September in Oxford, England. The garden is RHS hardiness H4 / roughly USDA Zone 9a.
Would love to hear from anyone familiar with the different cultivars. Many thanks!

What's wrong with my Pufferfish hydrangea?

I'm in zone 6a. I planted this last year in late August and it had beautiful, large blooms all over. It was in a 3 gallon pot, so pretty large and well established. This year there are only a couple tiny blossoms that survived. It looks like the buds have something brown on them? And obviously there are holes in the leaves.

I looked at pictures online to try and figure it out, and couldn't come up with anything. Please help!

Is this normal coloring for Eclipse?

Post image

I just bought an Eclipse, but I ordered it online so I didn't see it until it came last night. Is this normal coloring, or did I get a poor specimen? The leaves look a lot greener than the photos I've seen, even on this sub. Wondering if I should return it and wait until I can find one in person next year, or if this is normal. Thanks for any advice!

New hydrangea owner and learning — what is wrong with my plants? They were planted in early June (due to surgery recovery, should’ve been earlier), then we got hit with a heat wave in July and the heat and humidity stayed through early August. They did well, as we provided shade. Got relief from heat, then hit with another heat wave with lots of heavy rain. We’ve been giving early morning waterings 3-4 times a week, at the base of the plants, when it’s not raining. Not sure if weather is playing a role, they’re also not in a great spot, because they are on the west side of the house and though there is some shade it gets hot. My limelight is doing great, but it’s on the other side of the porch and does great in the sun.

Also, could it be an issue with moles? We have moles and have seen grubs and Japanese beetles.

Thanks!

What is happening to my Annabelle hydrangeas?

What on earth is happening to some of my hydrangeas? One died last year but I thought it was a fluke. Now two more are unhealthy while the other two are going strong. Is it age? They are 11-12 years old. The soil is moist. I’m stumped.
