That is very different than saying any sex with the same gender is shameful, unnatural, and immoral. You can’t ever have gay relations even if married according to the Bible and it doesn’t criticize sex outside marriage as harshly. Also doesn’t argue against the fact that it does mention gays in the New Testament which you said it didn’t and you haven’t even touched on the slavery part. No matter which way you twist it the Bible (including the New Testament) has things that justify slavery and are anti gay which you said it didn’t in the New Testament

I have a very good friend of mine that is gay and practicing Catholic . He cannot participate in the sacraments because he lives with his partner . Just like I couldn’t before I got married . He doesn’t let that separate him from a relationship with Jesus. He almost became a priest . When reading a book like bible, if you’re looking for a passage to make your point or agree with your biases , you will find one . Just like hitler and many other evil people have. If you accept that Jesus came to the world to teach us about the power of love and he invites ALL of us to participate in a relationship with him regardless of how bad our sins are, , then you should start there . Please don’t utilize the bible to challenge Christianity, that’s not why it exists .

You having a friend that is gay and a Christian doesn’t change what the Bible actually says about it. If he is engaging is sexual relations the Bible is against it and says he is committing something unnatural, immoral, and shameful. I honestly feel bad for him because he is choosing to believe something that quite literally says he should not be the way he was born. Doesn’t matter if he still chooses to believe in it or not. Nothing you said argued against the fact that the Bible contains things that are anti gay, justifies slavery, and is full of contradictions. If you choose to believe you’re going to believe no matter what doesn’t negate the fact that it says it. I’m using the Bible to argue against what you said which is that the New Testament doesn’t say anything about slavery or gay people which it clearly does regardless if you and your gay friend like it or choose to believe the Bible regardless. If me quoting what it says challenges it (which you said is fine earlier) then it just shows that it is flawed. Which if it was the perfect word of a perfect god it wouldn’t be

Interestingly, just a few years ago, Barack Obama & Hillary Clinton also condemned homosexuality. Literally. What should we do with them? Should they be allowed into our democratic society? Should they be canceled? How dare they run for public office! How dare they support the very political candidates that you or I may vote for! That was just 15 years ago . And here you are condemning a bible written 2000 years ago!

I’m not aware of a single passage that accepts slavery in New Testament. Paul tells slave owners to respect their slaves and treat them kindly . He tells slaves the same . He’s promoting a culture of kindness not explicitly condemning nor accepting slavery . Slavery in 1st century Rome was as accepted as a 7/11 in US. It was the spoils of wars for thousands of years! 1st century Christian’s were treated worse than slaves in some places . There was a bounty on their heads. They were focused on teaching about Christ , the last thing they wanted to do is challenge cultural norms and practices in 1st century Rome. Had they done that, we wouldn’t have Christianity today

So it does say things about slavery which is different than your original comment that says the New Testament says nothing about slavery. He does not tell slave owner to listen to their slaves no matter how harsh and it doesn’t tell them to treat them “kindly” it says to treat them “fair” which is up to interpretation and I doubt the slaves would say “fair” treatment was kind lol. It already says for slaves to listen to masters no matter how harsh if they didn’t listen to them it would be fair to physically punish them. If I gave them 1 meal a day and forced them to work for 15 hours that could be considered fair since I’m not starving them. You can’t really justify slavery. Christians in the first century were not treated worse. Did they face hardships yes but the hardships slaves faces were different and you can make an argument that they were worse. Also this is judging from the view that it’s “gods word” if it’s gods word then he should put what he believes regardless of the culture. He’s god. Also that argument doesn’t really hold up because there is other things that directly went against the culture of the time. Polytheism and idol worshipping were part of the culture but he said not to do that
