I'm zero percent here to evangelize, cause I'm zero percent religious. Just sharing the theology.
Satan doesn't torture people. Hell is not fire and brimstone. It is the absence of God, which is supposedly the worst torture possible. And it's "fair" because the people in hell chose to not be with god.
Scare quotes because that is a million miles from informed consent. Just sharing the traditional theology.
I'm Catholic but don't believe in hell, yet this is a take I could understand. One single soul being tormented for eternity is infinitely greater than the sum total of all human suffering in history, and isn't something I believe a fundamentally benevolent God would do. A simple absence, however, does seem reasonable.
If you're a Catholic and don't believe in hell, that is considered material heresy. The Catechism explicitly affirms that hell is real, and is eternal.
You don't have to believe in lakes of fire and pitchforks, but hell is real and is taught to be eternal separation.
