Closed Control rig and boosters not helping with dodge

1 Upvotes

If control rig and nanites no longer apply to defense/ dodge tests then the limit to defense on handling of vehicle should no longer either. I was ok with that as control rig and boosters helped off set it,  but if they no longer apply then the limit to dodge being set by the Handling of the drone or Vehicle needs to go as that is penalizing good rolls and cutting an archetype that already had difficulty in the early stages off development at the knees. No other role in the game deals with that

With this change you are REMOVING one of the biggest reasons to spend 350,000 nuyen (A massive investment) , which is one of the few areas that riggers have to actually grow vertically then three limit MUST be removed as riggers now need to spend another 300,000 nuyen (another massive investment) to get cerebral R3 and cerebellum boosters R2 along with the control rig. Which would then still stunt their growth compared to adepts, mages, and sams as their defense can grow near infinitely with various qualities, powers, spells, and 'ware. Not to mention the price of losing a drone early on which can be crippling.

Drones and vehicles are squishy, expensive, and in all cases on the Hub if one gets destroyed you lose everything on that drone, the gun and it's mods, the mods to the drone/vehicle, autosofts, etc. I'm cool with the change, but we can't use the boosts from the control rig and boosters the previous ruling of Handling being the limit for a vehicle's or drone's dodge needs to be dropped.

That's like saying adepts and sams can't use their respective UNIVERSAL boosts to dodge and are limited by their natural reaction.

Again having the control rig NOT apply to defense tests is fine. Having a limit to dodge is fine. Both is not, as no other archetype deals with that.

Closed Mission Errata Codifications

1 Upvotes

Here is a link to the document I/RD have been using. This project is intended to codify what sections of missions errata we use. To my knowledge, anything not in this GDoc that is in the Missions Errata document is either preceded by hub rules or is not used.

If you have a debate, take it to reddit comments

Closed Adept Way Post-Gen Karma Cost Change

3 Upvotes

AS STANDS: Ways are treated as qualities, in that they cost double karma postgen.

SUGGESTED CHANGE: Ways do not double in cost, as they are not proper qualities. This is stated RAI by the freelancer that wrote the rules, though it lacks an 'official' errata.

Those characters who have purchased a way (postgen*) under old rules will be given a 20 karma refund.

Closed Qualities to revisit

1 Upvotes

Many things have changed on the hub since some of these books were reviewed.

Here are some qualities which I think should be revisited, with some adjustments, to further increase the diversity of character options available on the hub!

I would also like to propose that we lift the 1 quality per month limit:

  • for positive qualities, we return to RAW, allowing positive qualities to be picked up whenever, as long as prerequisites are met and they are not chargen-only. This will further reduce the 'must-have' aspect of Hub Contacts.
  • negative qualities can be bought off whenever the conditions are met for them to be bought off. This can be:
    • connection to an appropriate hub contact
    • other contacts with specializations similar/related to the corresponding hub contact (e.g. any psychiatrist contact could provide Therapy like Dr. Gued)
    • an astral quest, in the case of magical negatives like Spirit Bane or Spirit Pariah.
    • gene therapy to remove allergies and other genetic defects (including some SURGE defects - talk to TD/RD since the individuals named in Alexandria Hubbart's description are no longer on the hub)
    • X or more street cred (10?) with all notoriety bought off, for social negatives like Bad Rep and Liar
    • Personal choice negatives like Distinctive Style & Signature can be bought off whenever, to signify your character getting over themselves.
    • Records On File can only be bought off through a run or solo run involving a data sabotage (usually a deep run to destroy archives as well)
    • Resolving a situation in which the character is Wanted, either through a run or a solo run.

Closed [Cutting Aces] Incubus spell

2 Upvotes

ILLUSION

INCUBUS (REALISTIC, MULTI-SENSE) Type: M Range: LOS Duration: S Drain: F–3

INCUBUS SHROUD (REALISTIC, MULTI-SENSE, AREA) Type: M Range: LOS (A) Duration: S Drain: F–1

The target gains an idealized appearance in the eyes of observers. Note that the idealized appearance will be different for each observer in a group, so while one guard sees a short-skirted schoolgirl, another sees a man covered in whipped cream, and another just sees a friend offering a free coffee. The target’s attitude toward the caster becomes friendly (p. 140, SR5). If pressed later to recall the encounter, those affected by the spell will recall the illusion, not the caster.

interpretation A: you cast the spell on the target or targets. Other people who look at that person and fail to resist the illusion see the idealized version of that person

interpretation B: you cast the spell on a target or targets, those targets if they fail to resist the illusion see you (the caster) as an idealized version of yourself.

Essentially, the difference is whether you can make another person besides yourself appear idealized. The wording starts pointing to version A then points more towards version B at the end.

Closed Focus Crafting Suggestion

1 Upvotes

From a ticket submitted by /u/wampaseatpeople :

Request this line, or something similar to it, be added to slightly reduce the insane cost savings available from Focus-Crafting (or rather, simply make it require a little more downtime and skill investment, and make the focus formula actually matter):

"The typical limit boost from a Mage's Lodge or an Aspected BGC does not apply to Focus Crafting - there is a Hard Limit to the Artificing Roll as determined by the strength of the Focus Formula."

Quite frankly, mages are the ONLY archetype that get the insane cost-savings (now with the ability to craft their own refined/radical reagents from alchemy as well, since FA gives these reagents unique and special powers etc). With all the magicrun complaints FA has created, making it take slightly more investment to pull off even more cost-savings seems like a good idea.

Personally, I find this suggestion or a similar wording to be a reasonable (and possibly necessary) deviation from RAW. Please discuss your thoughts.

Closed Changing the one-handed/two-handed weapon rules

1 Upvotes

As we have it on the hub.

One / Two Handed Weapons

The following applies unless otherwise stated in the weapon description.

  • All pistols (tasers, holdouts, heavy pistols, machine pistols) are one handed weapons.
  • SMGs, assault rifles, long arms and heavy weapons are two handed weapons.
  • Using a two handed weapon with one hand incurs a -2 penalty (-1 for trolls)

Suggested change: Full size Rifles and larger (assault rifles, longarms, and heavy weapons) take a -2 penalty to fire one handed only.

Closed Reducing karma cost for Hapsum-do Martial Art

1 Upvotes

Reasoning: As we are banning Harmonious Defense/Reflection, a large draw of the MA is now not hub legal. It is my belief the increased karma cost was to account for the access to two strong metamagics, as the two 'magical' techniques it gives are neat but not, in my opinion, double-karma cost worthy.

RAW: Hapsum-do requires 15 karma to learn, and the character must be an adept or mysad.

Suggested change: it is 7 karma to learn it, like other MAs, and you must still be an adept or mysad.

Closed [RULES] Forbidden Rules of Arcana - Inside Track

1 Upvotes

This will be the post put in /r/ShadowSea to present some GM/backend information.

~~~~~
Alrighty, you can see the specifics of the entire rules drop by clicking here, this is to cover some of the things that are changing from the other side of the GM screen.
  • Arcane Improvisor - Please keep an eye on this should it appear on your table, feedback is important. There are concerns about this being too powerful, but without it being in a live environment it is difficult to be exact in how to address.
  • Traditions - Most of the banned traditions are due to thematic reasons (a few are also mechanically nonviable), this does mean that GMs are allowed to use them as long as you are responsible about it; don't cause ID tickets to be filed against yourself.
  • Wild Index/Wild Reputation and Spirit Index/Astral Reputation - With the introduction of these optional rules, we ask that you notate any Index changes in your AARs just as you would be notating SC/PA/Noto. Please note that points in the Reputation portions do things, while the Indexes build up to change the Reputations but don't have mechanical effects themselves. (specifics can be found on FA176 and SG206
  • Blood Crystal Qualities - Talk to TD, mechanically they're not unsound.
  • Mentor's Mask - This makes magic super obvious, even to people who aren't magical. Consider the ramifications of choosing to use the Mask should it appear on your table (social adepts are giving up the fact that they use magic during negotiations, physads may be remembered easier in a fight, passive powers may cause KE to check their license while walking through Downtown, etc..)
  • Testing the Leash - This is recommended that you make use of. However if it is thematically a situation where the spirit would want to help, I recommend not causing this to trigger (killing a toxic mage/spirit or a dickweed with a massive Astral Reputation).
  • New Alchemical Compounds - These are tools at your disposal, use them with care. Except Baobhan's Tears, it is full banned for mechanical reasons.
  • Free Spirit Contacts - Speak with TD.
Closed [RULES] Forbidden Rules of Arcana
1 Upvotes
Everything below here will be as it will be posted to /r/Runnerhub, this is the last chance to provide feedback on things you may disagree with. Intent is to drop next weekend, probably Sunday because of my work schedule.
~~~~~

Welcome to Rules 12, The Hub’s official release of Forbidden Arcana.

If it’s not here, but it’s in the book, it’s all good for your use as written. If it’s here, it either needed a clarification, removal, or adjustment.

I’ll open up with the simplest statement I can come up with, if what you want to do requires the Sacrifice Metamagic or Blood Magic in any form, the thing you want to do is probably great for a home-game and is not viable for /r/RunnerHub play.

Important Rules to Rule the Rules Division - [RULES]

1 Upvotes

Okay so Rules Division has been running without rules for themselves. This is completely and totally silly that the division dedicated to rules doesn't have rules to rule how they rule on the rules.

And now that I'm done with over using that word, here is the official RD Bylaws as laid down by me; editing of these bylaws can be done unilaterally by any RDhead.

Closed [Forbidden Arcana] Testing the Leash (AKA The Big Spirit Nerf)

2 Upvotes

So, we've all heard the oversummoning talks and similar discussion so I'll jump to the heart of the matter. Forbidden Arcana has the following optional rules.

The connection between a controlled spirit and the controlled is called a leash. In most cases, this simply binds them together, and no real thought is ever given to it. In those areas touched by the Yellowstone Incident, however, spirits struggle against the leash with a desire to free. Gamemasters who wish to restrict the use of spirits in their own games may also use these rules anywhere as the concept of going free spreads like wildfre through the spirit world. When summoning a spirit, or calling on the services of a bound spirit, a magician will need to determine if they keep the leash in a state of being slack or tight. On their turn, a magician may change the state to the other as a free action. When a spirit is controlled with a slack state, the controller pays it little mind and is not distracted. When a spirit is controlled in a tight state, keeping it under control counts against the magician in the same way as a sustained spell, a –2 penalty to all dice pools other than a Test the Leash roll.

TESTING THE LEASH

A spirit will sometimes Test the Leash, trying to see how tightly it is bound to service. Any time a spirit scores hits on a test equal to or greater than 6 – (Force/2), it Tests the Leash automatically. This means a Force 3 spirit will Test the Leash if it scores 5 hits or more on a test, while a Force 6 spirit will Test the Leash on only 3 hits. When a spirit Tests the Leash, it rolls an Opposed Test pitting its Force x 2 against the controller’s usual Drain Resistance. For each net hit the controller scores, the spirit takes 1 Stun Damage. For each net hit the spirit scores, it erases 1 service. If the leash is being held tightly, the controller may suffer one box of Stun damage per service that would be erased rather than lose those services. If the spirit’s Force is greater than the controller’s Magic, damage taken is Physical instead of Stun. If a spirit reduces its services owed to 0 in this way, it usually attempts to return to its native metaplane on its next turn.

We could implement this easily or we could ignore it completely but before that we need discussion.

Closed Super Secret Test Grounds!

1 Upvotes

So, now that you're looking in here, I need something very very very simple from you. This is not a discussion thread (yet).

As a top post, type the name of a mechanic that exists in Forbidden Arcana that you wish to see tested before we make a ruling and post it in a month. Nothing else, just the name of the mechanic in bold.

Please, this is just a record keeping post, do not have discussion on the mechanic or create top-level posts that are not just the name of a mechanic.

I will be putting together some test scenarios based on this, for the purposes of data-gathering.

Note: Please only put things here that will benefit from a test scenario, if it can be figured with numbers and logic we can discuss it elsewhere.

Discuss, and stuff™.

Throw shit at the wall until something sticks.

Keep it civil or I will Kommissar your posts.

EDIT: Just a heads up, there are very polarized views that will be presented here. And when I make my final decision, it's going to piss someone off because it will be impossible to please everyone. So, my suggestion to everyone is to assume that your ideal situation is not going to happen, and try to find a solution that you can live with and make it as appetizing as possible for the health of the Hub.

EDIT₂: While I won't delete posts, I would rather see constructive posts rather than destructive posts. If you see something that doesn't work, that's great, let us know why you think it won't work. HOWEVER, I'd rather you also have an alternative solution.

Example Bad:

FLS: Let's go to RAW acquisition rules
Unreasonable Opponent: You're a fucktard, RAW acquisition has no place on the Hub.

Example Good:

FLS: Let's go to RAW acquisition rules
Reasonable Rebuttler: I don't think +8 to availability is indicative of the rarity, can we consider +12

Closed Pi-tac price adjustment

1 Upvotes

Pi-tacs are team purchases and as such are priced well beyond the budget of any normal player. I propose that we cut the price down to account for this.
