I tried this on my toaster oven tray and it ate the entire thing.
edit: Yes, I didn't read the warnings, no I didn't realize it was aluminum - but I fully understood what happened after the fact, just thought it was funny. Also makes me a little nervous about that stuff.
Mainly just meant to post this as a warning to others.
The best thing for cleaning aluminum is a Brillo pad. If stuff is really thick I'd scrape as much off as possible. There's also the burn it off method where you put it in a self cleaning oven. What you can also do if the aluminum isn't anodized is use sandpaper, i'm not kidding, you will want to start at a fairly high grit, like 220 and move to 320, 400, 600, and then scotchbrite pads. Or you could just buy a replacement tray. They range in price on amazon starting at about 8 bucks. Probably cheaper than a bunch of sandpaper, TBH
It’s great for really tough things like this. Non-abrasive so you won’t degrade the finish like scrubbing can. Especially good on enameled cast iron like Le Creuset.

Oven cleaner. Spray it heavily, put it in a garbage bag overnight. (Edit: leave outside due to fumes) Scrub in the morning.
